You’d be designing all the pages and not just a homepage.

hmmm…. that turns it into an incredible amount of work. Why not pick a winning homepage and then the designer can build out the other pages after winning. If the winning homepage is chosen, that’s a big incentive to finish/design the other pages (beautifully) because the winner will receive all the revenue from sales.
Otherwise it’s just too much work. Chances are you’ll end up with a mediocre site which won’t sell. Of course, the person will win a few cute prizes but the real prize is the revenue from sales. Too bad, because this contest is more of an opportunity for theme forest than it is for designers. They have a chance to find some serious talent through this contest for future themes.
High level designers won’t be able to make the time commitment to do ALL the pages. Maybe this contest is really for students and beginners.
It’s like buying $5,000 worth of lottery tickets. Not exactly worth doing.

@dp – “Too bad, because this contest is more of an opportunity for theme forest than it is for designers.” – I believe they will profit from it since the receive a portion of the theme sales profit, but keep in mind they are paying for the prizes and for HTML ROckstars to build the templates.
The winners on top of winning either cash or console/hand-held will also be receiving a % of the total sales of their theme. That means it is very much in the interest of a designer to have one of the best designs as that will most likely result in sales.

If many people think like you do and don’t enter, then the greater the chances of winning for the ones who do enter. At the end of the day someone has to win, whether PSDTUTS have 5 entries (because of the amount of work scared off others) or 50 entries.

This is a contest I just might enter. As people have mentioned, it’s hard to make time if you’re doing design work for a living. Having said that, you have to pick and choose your battles. Don’t do every single little design contest that comes up. Rather, do the contests that really peak your interest.

1 question though,
in my personal opinion, the selling themes on themeforest does really well, not necessarily because the themes has superb design, but rather because it has fancy javascript effects.
What’s the policy on javascript?

Nah I think they will ask for the PSD’s from the 3 winners before coding, making the sites from a JPG would be nearly impossible.
I’m dying to know too, I’m heading overseas soon and would like to know if I got a place so I can prepare the sites for sale before I leave

I wonder if these were uploaded directly to themeforest if they would have been rejected for being too similar?
