PSDTUTS! ‘New Dawn’ Movie Poster Design Contest!

DiggThis

We have the next all new PSDTUTS Design Contest. This contest is about creating a movie poster for a fictitious Sci-fi movie. Up for grabs is a Wacom tablet, a Logitech G9 laser mouse, subscriptions to ‘Wired’ magazine, loads of marketplaces credit and 1-year memberships to PSDTUTS. This is going to be a lot of fun! Learn all about the contest and how to enter at the jump!

About the Contest

Imagine a new blockbuster thriller set in the near future where some kind of mysterious force threatens the world. In this movie the setting is a post-apocalyptic cityscape.

For the purposes of this contest the movie is called ‘New Dawn‘ and the tagline is “Extinction is not an option.” Pick your own rock-star cast of Hollywood celebrities and design your futuristic poster design. What is this mysterious force? What does this dystopian setting look like? Will it be a gritty cyberpunk fight-fest or set so far in the future that the world is unrecognizable? Is it animated or live action? You call the shots.

Read on to find out more about How to Enter, Prizes, Terms & Conditions, and learn about our Sponsors. You may want to stop by Tomasz Opasinski’s site here for some poster inspiration. He wrote the PSDTUTS PLUS tutorial Demolition Made Easy in Photoshop, which covers techniques he used in creating the “I Am Legend” posters.

Entries are open between now and the end of December. So, get your entries in before December 31st. We’ll be announcing the winners shortly after the New Year. Get creative with this contest and have fun!

How to Enter

To enter the competition, contestants must submit any number of exciting movie poster design(s) into the PSDTUTS Flickr Group. Be sure to utilize the following directions:

  • Submit your poster design via the PSDTUTS Flickr Group, tagged with “pstnewdawn.”
  • Submit a JPG image that is 600 pixels wide by 911 pixels tall. Now you can submit bigger, but base it on a standard 1-Sheet Movie poster, which is 27 inches wide by 41 inches tall. You may want to design at that full size, and then shrink it down to a size that will fit on our website, which is 600 pixels wide.
  • Include in the description a brief interpretation of your poster design.
  • Include in the description of your Flickr entry any stock or source images you have used including URLs to those images.

Prizes

Terms & Conditions

  • Entries into the competition must be entirely your work. If you use stock images in the composition, you must have an appropriate license to use the image and place a link to the image used in the description of your item.
  • Entries must be submitted to the PSDTUTS Flickr Group pool before midnight December 31st Eastern Standard Time.
  • Plus memberships will be issued from the date of notification of the winners. They are not redeemable for cash.
  • AudioJungle/FlashDen/ThemeForest credit will be issued to a username provided by the winners. This prize is not redeemable for cash and can only be spent on those sites.
  • Judging of the winners will be done by the editor and writing staff of PSDTUTS in conjunction with the TUTS Manager. Our decision is final.
  • Staff or regular writers of PSDTUTS are not eligible to enter. Occasional contributors (i.e. people who have had less than 2 tutorials published on the site) are eligible to enter.

BTW, just realised that my last comment says “1st January”. I have uploaded the image on the 24th December, just so you know i’m not breaking any rules here :!:

    Thanks! :)

The issue with the images not showing will be down to your accounts. New accounts need to be moderated and you need more than 4 images before they do that. I came across the same issue as long as you are logged in the images will show up.

Also I noticed that when you do a search for the pstnewdawn tag via flickr in the psdtuts group and it defaults to most relevant some images get shift around and appear more than once as you page through.

Here are my design entries if they get missed:

Also I have added a top 5 of the designs that I like from the competition from other designers on my updated blog post:

Thanks everybody. Because of the issues with Flickr we’ll have a couple extra days grace period for anyone that needs to leave a comment in this post. Then we’ll start looking through the entries an choosing the winners. Lot’s of high quality work in this contest as well. Happy New Year!

  4. Sean Hodge says:

Hey all, I’m signing off for the day. So, new comments may not get moderated until tomorrow morning. Don’t worry about the deadline. As long as your Flickr entry was in on time, and if it’s not showing up in the group, then just link to it here in the next couple of days.

We’ll wait a couple days before starting to decide on winners. Happy New Years! Thx.

Sorry for seeing your comment this late Sean

  16. and just for commenting on @Simon Page comment:

I’ve been a member on flickr for a eternity and have more than 5 images and my account is moderated and still it didn’t show up. Been adding to pools before, without any problems, but I can’t figure out why this suddenly is a problem.

  17. Simon Page says:

Hmm odd something funky going on – I suspect it is something to do with the search filters (recent uploads / most interesting). Sorting via these throws up different search counts which it shouldn’t.

Suggest you contact Flickr help. I contacted them and the next day they were all appearing – they said it was due to a moderation flag.

  18. Tom says:

So disappointed. I invested many hours creating my entry from scratch and it has not ever appeared on flickr. It was properly tagged and everything.
I don’t get it. Maybe next time.

The one’s that have posted look great! Good work everyone!
