Psdtuts+! ‘New Dawn’ Movie Poster Design Contest!

We have the next all new Psdtuts+ Design Contest. This contest is about creating a movie poster for a fictitious Sci-fi movie. Up for grabs is a Wacom tablet, a Logitech G9 laser mouse, subscriptions to ‘Wired’ magazine, loads of marketplaces credit and 1-year memberships to Psdtuts+. This is going to be a lot of fun! Learn all about the contest and how to enter at the jump!

About the Contest

Imagine a new blockbuster thriller set in the near future where some kind of mysterious force threatens the world. In this movie the setting is a post-apocalyptic cityscape.

For the purposes of this contest the movie is called ‘New Dawn‘ and the tagline is “Extinction is not an option.” Pick your own rock-star cast of Hollywood celebrities and design your futuristic poster design. What is this mysterious force? What does this dystopian setting look like? Will it be a gritty cyberpunk fight-fest or set so far in the future that the world is unrecognizable? Is it animated or live action? You call the shots.

Read on to find out more about How to Enter, Prizes, Terms & Conditions, and learn about our Sponsors. You may want to stop by Tomasz Opasinski’s site here for some poster inspiration. He wrote the Psdtuts+ PLUS tutorial Demolition Made Easy in Photoshop, which covers techniques he used in creating the “I Am Legend” posters.

Entries are open between now and the end of December. So, get your entries in before December 31st. We’ll be announcing the winners shortly after the New Year. Get creative with this contest and have fun!

How to Enter

To enter the competition, contestants must submit any number of exciting movie poster design(s) into the Psdtuts+ Flickr Group. Be sure to utilize the following directions:

  • Submit your poster design via the Psdtuts+ Flickr Group, tagged with “pstnewdawn.”
  • Submit a JPG image that is 600 pixels wide by 911 pixels tall. Now you can submit bigger, but base it on a standard 1-Sheet Movie poster, which is 27 inches wide by 41 inches tall. You may want to design at that full size, and then shrink it down to a size that will fit on our website, which is 600 pixels wide.
  • Include in the description a brief interpretation of your poster design.
  • Include in the description of your Flickr entry any stock or source images you have used including URLs to those images.

Prizes

Terms & Conditions

  • Entries into the competition must be entirely your work. If you use stock images in the composition, you must have an appropriate license to use the image and place a link to the image used in the description of your item.
  • Entries must be submitted to the Psdtuts+ Flickr Group pool before midnight December 31st Eastern Standard Time.
  • Plus memberships will be issued from the date of notification of the winners. They are not redeemable for cash.
  • AudioJungle/FlashDen/ThemeForest credit will be issued to a username provided by the winners. This prize is not redeemable for cash and can only be spent on those sites.
  • Judging of the winners will be done by the editor and writing staff of Psdtuts+ in conjunction with the TUTS Manager. Our decision is final.
  • Staff or regular writers of Psdtuts+ are not eligible to enter. Occasional contributors (i.e. people who have had less than 2 tutorials published on the site) are eligible to enter.

I can’t wait to see what people come up with and it’s great to see the enthusiasm.

@Esben Thomsen – No, instead we have the entries placed in the PSDTUTS Flickr group with the tag “pstnewdawn.” Then all we have to do to see all those entries is search for that term within the group. It works well and we’ve done this successfully with other contests. Thx.

  23. Mmm.. where can we get copyrights to use celebrity photos though?

  24. Sean Hodge says:

@Javier – You should avoid using celebrity photos and stick to stock photos. Thx.

  30. picture-freak says:

    Hi
I tried to submit my work on the pst flicker group with the pstnewdawn tag, but i can’t see it in the gallery!!
    can someone help me?

  31. phalconrush says:

Same thing happened to me. It seems that if you flickr account is new and has less than 5 photos. It hasn’t been reviewed yet. So won’t show up in the group. This sux, because ive read that sometimes it can take a long time to get your account reviewed, and I’m very interested in getting feedback on my poster.

Anything we can do about this PSDTUTS?

    Thanks

  32. Sean McCoy says:

Is there a limit to the number of entries we can submit?

  33. Sean, i don’t think it is any limit.

Do we have to buy the images or can we use stuff we find on Google or something like that? i know if we do we have to submit the URL to that site.

  34. quitus says:

  35. mcneebs says:

I’m also looking for an answer as to how long it will take to review my account. As long as it’s before the deadline it’s fine my me though :D

Great contest, I had a blast making my first poster!

  36. picture-freak says:

    hi there
I still have the same problem. My entry for the contest doesn’t appear in the gallery. I don’t understand why because i have 6 pictures on a psdtut account. Just hope other people can see it…

Great contest by the way. Some of the propositions submitted are really interesting!!

  37. Simon Page says:

These are the first movie poster designs I have actually done and I have rather enjoyed it – thanks PSDTUTS!

Must all entries have to consist of a “cityscape” or can we do whatever we want? Like, can we create a poster without any buildings at all?

    Hi all,

Anyone who’s image isn’t showing up in the Flickr contest group under the tag “pstnewdawn,” just leave a comment on this post with a link to your entry. We’ll check here before picking winners as well.

Keep in mind that when leaving the link your comment will need to be moderated, so it might take a few hours to show up.

    Thx.
