Whoa! wasn’t expecting that! She’s half naked! (In a lateral way, not a horizontal way…)
At least with the Pete Harrison Interview you wouldn’t go in without knowing what you’re getting into! They had a small picture example of the kind of work he did, and so people can chose to go in – and see more of his work, or stay out – knowing that they wouldn’t want their kids to dress like that. So why would they want to see that and be an example to their kids, by letting their kids think that they can go and look at sites that have half naked women (or men) on them. So, if you ask me (and I know some people might post and say they didn’t, so in advance, just so you know, i have moral standards!) I think that they should put up a rating system to let people of all ages know if it might have some content that might not be suitable for kids.

If you’re working in the field of graphic design (or even interested in it), you have to be tolerant of the use of sexual appeal in designs. The human body can be an essential element in art and design, and can be used both tastefully and creatively without it being perverted.

And in the realm of graphic design, this is not even close to being risque.

Yes, Well some people may like that, but I don’t want to be known by that to my friends. It’s all about morals, and I just have different ones than you.

    3. PG

      Dullface May 17th

With an attitude like that, you can’t even let your kids watch TV or view front pages of magazines. I bet they don’t either.
What’s wrong with the human body? We all have one, it is no secret to anyone. What a naked body looks like should not be a taboo, or a thing to hide. It should be the most natural and common thing in the world, because it is. You’ve got a messed up view on things.
I think we all have moral standards, trust me there are much much much worse things on the internet than what you see here. If you think this girl is lightly dressed, try looking up a bikini. It’s nuts.

Yeah! I know! I don’t even watch much TV anymore, (because of that very reason) I just watch Discovery Channel, and Hallmark. And since I have a DVR I can fast forward on the bad parts of stuff. But, you know that’s just my opinion. And since I live in America, I can have one- without being oppressed (at least not as much as other nations). what i want to do in my graphic design is something like the “23 Awesome Examples of Design as a Force For Good” article. (here’s the link – http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/designing-tutorials/23-awesome-examples-of-design-as-a-force-for-good/). And that’s what I want to do…
        :)

Hey JesusFreak983!, if the problem here is the body of the model, why do you comment here knowing everybody could be against your opinions? Seriously, it’s ridiculous your comment the fact her body is annoying you. If you don’t like it, just don’t post your comment, or you will listen things you won’t like to read…
My advise for you is to always check first the final result of the artwork of the tutorial. If it annoys you, please do us the favor to not post.
Ow, and if someone use a bad word, too bad for you, ’cause we can see the positive meaning of it, as a giant commendation, and not something of the devil, if you understand me.
By the way, this artwork is awesome and show what a great designer can do if a photo. If there’s someone who masturbating with this photo, that’s would be a shame. The true designer see much more than a female body. So please, respect this artwork. It’s a masterpiece. Learn how to admire it.

      @JesusFreak983!
Yeah your right, while we’re at it let’s all send letters to museums to enforce a content rating. The last thing we’d want is a child accidentally seeing Manet’s “Olympia”.

While we differ in morals be sure to know that to many of those in the art world, your morals are considered to be skewed and close-minded.
I mean, honest to god, good luck on finding a reputable design firm that will still keep you on the team when they shove a sex-appeal driven client in your face, only for you to say “DOES NOT COMPUTE WITH MY MORALS”.

@PSD tuts, please don’t listen to this woman.
If you do I will assure you, for me at least, it would lead to me canceling my paid subscription.

I myself like the technique, but not the photo, and would have used something different. Having moral standards is not impossible as a designer.

    You said:

“Yeah! I know! I don’t even watch much TV anymore, (because of that very reason) I just watch Discovery Channel, and Hallmark. ”

So you watch History channels and other types of channels to keep your eyes shielded from the human figure, perhaps wearing a slightly revealing dress or outfit? Sorry to be stereotypical here, but you’re a Christian from America right? The ones who train their kids up to ignore things like ladies bodies, and to act the way you want?

Oh dear. There is nothing here that needs to be censored. A bit of flesh on show?! Do you go around wearing a tent in case people get the wrong idea, and think you’re a stripper by wearing a short sleeved top?

Look up advertising as mentioned and you’ll see that sex appeal has gone mainstream. In fact it’s always been a common theme in order to sell products because people are drawn to it, whether it’s the male sex or the female.

Whoa! I wasn’t expecting this kind of feedback. I’m sorry to everyone out there that I may have offended. But that was just my comment on what I feel, and I know not everyone feels the same way. And sorry I didn’t actually comment on the work! I do think it’s a great tut, and I may need to use those sometimes. And yes, it is a great tut, despite all this craziness. And I know now that I should have kept my comment’s to myself, but I’m a (almost) adult, and I think that though it may be a good thing to discuss this, but I think it should be on a different website than this, because this is not a forum. And just to let you know, that from here on out, I will not check back on the comments. Because I feel that this may get out of hand, (So, to the editor of this site, you may take this/these posts down. if you also think this might get out of hand).
And because of this, I will not look at all of you’re posts, so you might as well keep your opinions to yourself, as I will from now on.
I’M SORRY to all of you!
I did not mean to sound as if I was trying to force the same opinion onto all of you. You may act the way you please, and I will act mine. I want to try to make this world a better place for the next generation.
And again, I will not look at all of you’re posts, and I’m sorry for making such a ruckus.

Why is it that only half naked sexy women make for a good controversy, yet 350 punds women in their swimming suits are considered OK and in fact are encouraged to feel comfortable with themselves based on “it’s what’s inside that matters”? So why can’t sexy women be encouraged to feel comfortable with their bodies too?
I think the image looks great, it is sexy but far from perverse, the composition is awesome and colors very vibrant. I am a plus member so I will definitely have a look at this tutorial.

    Wonderful, tut. Very beautiful.

What we do is graphic art. Art is freedom of expression. To censor it wouldn’t be right. Many people responding are responding to being offended by the comment, as most think that this is a community of open mindedness. You wouldn’t want to censor a priceless Greek statue that that only hides certain parts of the body with a leaf, or any other piece.

And a rating system that you are speaking of is rather difficult. You are asking those with different mind sets of appropriateness to set a rating system to your standards.

I respect your opinion, but when posting about your opinion on what other’s should do, be aware that those with different values, morals pertain more to what is right and wrong rather while values are specific degrees, it will seem more as judgmental than anything. And people will come off as defensive. Do not expect to the world to conform to you.

Also, never stop posting your opinion. Just know that not everyone will like it. And everyone else, do not expect to like everyones point of view and learn to respect it as well as you’d like yours respected. As for me, not that anyone cares. I think the body is a beautiful piece of art. And if one respects it as art then there is nothing wrong with any amount of skin shown. This pertains to art of course. That is is all this tut is about, thus opinions on matters about anything else seem rather pointless.

Have a lovely day dear :) and everyone else too. Sorry for the long post, I feel the need to say something.

Hey everybody. I think it’s important for everyone to discuss their opinions. The topic is relevant and worth debating, on multiple levels. We certainly respect points of view about decency. It can be a fine line in deciding what is appropriate.

My opinion is that this image fits really well with the purpose of the tutorial, that of enhancing fashion photography. I think this is an attractive image, and looks like a fashion shot. I don’t think this is a negative female depiction, as no actual nudity is shown, and the model has a strong charismatic pose.

We respect and listen to other’s opinions, and we do take care in deciding what to post, and decency and appropriateness of image is certainly something we consider before approving a tutorial for publication. Thx.

    Hi,

Elements don’t fit together (woman…) the flow is unpressive and borderline, white is too blazing, black is too intense, highlights and shadows are illogical, dirty colors spots on the woman (not grungy, dirty)…

Fashion has its owns rules, people like what they use to see without asking themselves if it nice or not ; “Amazing”, “great”, “nice one”… My opinion is that try is a draft.

Having worked with fashion photographers in the past – there is one problem I see here that won’t “pass”; you can’t see the clothes! ;) You and the photographer may love it, but the fashion designer will ask for changes.
