Announcing the Launch of the Tuts+ Podcast

Psdtuts+ and the Tuts+ Network are excited to present the first episode of the Tuts+ Podcast! We will be producing one episode each month for Tuts+ readers and tackling a different topic each time.

In this first episode we are going to talk about the web design workflow from start to finish. This includes gathering information from the client to get a better idea of what they want visually, what steps you take in preparing mockups, how you share mockups with clients, what you do to get clients to sign off on design, testing of the final coded design, and other major steps of the web design workflow.

Our very first!

This is our first podcast, so we are still learning the ropes. Please leave your feedback in the comments section on how we can improve future episodes. Also, make sure to tell us what you’d like to hear next time.

Enjoy!

All music and sounds supplied by the very awesome AudioJungle!

    In the News

The Four Week Challenge,” from: A List Apart, by: Ryan Carson

    • “The reason is that when you work less, it gives you more time to experience life and think; you can use the extra time to not only spend with people you love, take up hobbies, or invest in causes you believe in, but also to have ideas. Some of our best ideas have come while driving, gardening, reading, or painting on the weekend.”
    • “Making lists …. Put the time-sensitive stuff at the top and be realistic. Choose three time-intensive things to do and five quick things to do. Make sure you finish all of them before you leave in the evening.”

Quality-Price-Ratio in Web Design (Pricing Design Work),” from Smashing Magazine

    • “Hourly rates are unfair to both the designer and the client. Well then, I can hear you asking, if not hourly, how are you supposed to figure out how to charge?”
    • “The first step in coming to a fair and reasonable valuation of your services is to take a look at your cost of doing business. Cost of business is simply everything that it takes for you to operate.”

Goals: Ready Aim Fire” from Go Media Zine

    • “If you don’t have a goal and just throw the dart, well, you may hit the wall, you may hit the floor, or you may hit your friend.”
    • “Write it down! Jot it down on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet. Or better yet, have it printed on a ten foot banner and hang it over your bed.”

  • Andrei Medina

Nice one. I’ve been waiting for this and am downloading this first episode.

Could you do a podcast on how to do a podcast and put it on itunes? If it doesn’t somehow destroy the time/space continuum.

@Andrei – good suggestion. We’ll likely need to do this a few more months though before we could recommend good podcasting solutions and best practices. Once we have some more experience though, this could be a good episode.

this is great news, congratulations again :) iTunes is downloading now!!!

Can’t wait to listen to this! Curious: will the Tuts+ site managers / editors appear as guests? Will the topics cover the same content the Tuts+ Network does?

You couldn’t have picked a better topic for the first episode; I’ll be sure to leave feedback after listening!

@Andrew – yah we’ll work to grow this so that it covers content relevant to the entire Tuts+ network.

At first we were thinking of doing a Psdtuts+ podcast, but then rethought how it would grow best in the future. And it makes sense to do something that covers topics that can cross different Tuts+ sites. Right now Danny is hosting and I’m sitting in is as the guest editor (sidekick) for now.

The idea is to get other editors involved in the future as well. I think it would be cool to have different editors as guests or co-hosts in future episodes in my place, as well as various professionals in as guests as well.

We’ll likely stick to graphic design, illustration, or web design topics for the first few casts, but the idea is to grow this in the future to cover topics across the Tuts+ network.

      Thanks.

      wait…..

      I think thats been done?

  • RUGRLN

Wicked stuff but 95 minutes is very long…might bore people of in the end…it’s better to have short frequent episodes like some of the other web / design podcasts offer maybe in video?

    • http://www.nouveller.com/ Benjamin Reid

Something along the lines of that interview with Collis and Cyan, that was great!

    • http://www.outlawdesignblog.com Danny Outlaw

Yeah, we aimed for 1 hour, but the “news” section started more conversation than I had planned for. The next one should be shorter.

  • Fredrik

Incredible! Finally, a podcast worth listening to!

A question though; will you be implementing video podcasts as well as audio, such as for demonstrations on how to do things and follow up with critiques on the technique/methodology?

  • Stoian Kirov

    We’re waiting for a TV show! :)

    Downlaoding….excited? just a wee bit

  • http://blujconcepts.net J Henderson

Nice podcast…. as a student that’s interested in Web Design freelance this helps on so many levels!! Although I am curious are you guys thinking about doing a vodcast instead of podcasts!!! I think using screen capture using screenr and podcasts will give a personal touch allowing us to ask questions during your vodcasts live like on UStream, just a suggestion loved the podcast great information! I use axure for wireframes and prototypes it’s free for students with a 3.0 GPA

    • http://www.outlawdesignblog.com Danny Outlaw

I think that might be in the mix. We recorded this podcast in TinyChat, Live. But, unfortunately, TinyChat has a way to go. I think we my do “holiday specials” on U-Stream or something.

  • http://webitect.net Kayla

Just subscribed to the podcast! Haven’t listened to it yet, but I have a good feeling about it. :) I like the theme of the first audio, hearing other’s thoughts on the workflow process has always interested me.

  • Muralmom

Wow! After years of leaving the industry to have babies, this is getting me back to speed! Thanks!!!

  • http://www.everythingi.us/ Ben Stanley

This is awesome… I downloaded last night and am listening to it now!

I think it would be awesome if you did some video podcasts with tutorials so they are portable and easy to download!

If you guys did that i would download every episode!!!
