Pro Printing Techniques in this Psd Premium Tutorial

This tutorial shows step-by-step how to create separated artwork for a screen printed T-shirt. Screen printing is regarded as the best method of printing onto apparel because of the quality it produces – and should not be confused with the inferior 4-color heat transfer printing which does not look as good or last as long. The tutorial also demystifies how to manage special or spot colors using Photoshop’s channels.

Detailed and Professional Instructions

To start off, you’ll assemble a CMYK illustration, then create a convincing mock up on a T-shirt. You’ll then make full use of Photoshop’s selection tools to create the necessary channels for screen printing, then discover how certain colors will maintain their vivacity by under printing with white. Finally, you’ll apply the often misunderstood concept of trapping to your artwork to counteract any slight misalignment that may occur on press.

  22. markusw says:

I think “tutsplus” is making a bad move with this plus membership thing.

  23. John says:

    Guys,

I love this site, but its obvious u are trying to grab a cheeky bit of cash – $9 a month!! its abit steep, considering the competition out there.

Keep up the good work tho – some great stuff here (sans membership)

  24. Misael Arroyo says:

Everyone who doesn’t have a plus membership should really get one if you can, the quality of these tutorials are awesome. I doubt you can’t get $9 a month, or get a $30 dollar visa gift card and use that to pay for 3months, and you still have like $7 left.

  25. Rob Jones says:

Looks like a nice tutorial, but subtle details (the halftone on her face/eyes, for example), would be lost on press.

  26. Skellie says:

@ Kid: Nope — exactly the same ratio of free vs. membership content as the last few months.

Thanks for all your comments, I enjoyed doing this one.

I’d like to thank Steve over at:
    http://www.t-shirt-printing-cornwall.co.uk/
for casting his expert eye over my final artwork seperations and to my lovely daughter Chloe who’s constant doodling was scanned and put to good use!

  28. This is nice! Keep it up!

  29. John D says:

Lol, I was actually searching the net for inspiration because i’ve got to make a 4 color print for tuesday.

What would be cool and not really covered anywhere else would be how to take an image and make a 4 color print by separating it to 4 colors (CMYK) for silkscreen print.

  30. rkrshoaib says:

    can you learn for easy??

  31. Nuubzta says:

  34. lilibunch says:

    thank you awesome!! =]

  35. Steve Brown says:

Thanks for the mention Mark, it is a good insight into basic trapping for screen print. Good example of a design suited to this medium.

  36. Jobama says:

The color separations are wrong in the first graphic, the pink you’ll end up overprinting the pink with black, and on a shirt that would turn into a mess.
