Learn Creative 3D Techniques in this Psd Plus Tutorial

This tutorial expands on "Using Typography from Photoshop to Create a 3D Text Render in C4D" in order to create a poster. We'll be modifying the scene, adding props and more text before heading over to Photoshop to finalize the poster design.

Plus members can Log in and Download! If you're not a member, you can of course join today!

Precise and Detailed Instructions Inside

We'll start the tutorial where we left off the previous one, "Using Typography from Photoshop to Create a 3D Text Render in C4D." You will have three C4D scene files provided with this tutorial. The end scene of the previous tutorial containing just the text in the studio, a scene with the props needed to create this poster, and an end scene for the project, with everything in place to make the final render.

While the first part was roughly 50/50 C4D/Photoshop, this one will be considerably heavier on the C4D part, at roughly two thirds C4D. Photoshop is only used to complete the poster and retouch colors. This is a 3D heavy tutorial for Plus members.

Wait, from the casual look, this tutorial looks exactly the same, except with a backdrop and some text. Am I hallucinating?

The second tutorial about 3D Techniques just for plus Members. I know that you have to pay your servers/writers etc. but I hate to see that the informative Tutorials are just for plus-Members. For example this one or the one about how to create a printable T-Shirt-Design.
For me as Free-Tutorial User there is no interesting stuff anymore. I started with the “Transparent Glass Lettering in Photoshop” Tutorial. And I am sad to tell you that this Tutorial, which I can’t even read, is my last one on this Page.

If you know how to use Maya you can incorporate the same techniques used in either programs.

      Nice outcome BTW.

Im not a plus member but would be curious to know how long it took to render that final scene and at what dpi/dimensions?

I bet that took 5 minutes to render. If you don’t have a lot of lines and details the render time is quick.

I never realized how cool a simple biped skeleton can be! Certainly works great for this poster, makes it very dynamic. I am a plus member, so I will give it a try over the weekend (with 3ds Max). Cool result, I like it a lot.
BTW, is that a water or a paint? If water, it needs some material tweaks, if paint I probably wouldn’t put a guy in it and maybe make it ‘leak’ from several other letters too.
Either way, great job, thanks for the tutorial!

      I doubt it’s Cinema 4D. After a little research, it’s probably Realflow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpUpVQ_jyIU

I really can’t see how this is different from the last tutorial of the same author. He just grabbed a bunch of predefined dummies, added some more text and put a few splashes in photoshop. That’s it. I really can’t see why there’s a new tutorial (not only a tutorial, a plus tutorial) with so little.

This is a great tutorial. HOWEVER be aware that in order to get the really sweet looking light effects on the text you need a plugin called VRay, which doesn’t come cheap. I had to just use C4D’s lighting and the text didn’t come out as well.

First let me say that you have create a very nice tutorial…
I have only one question please. If i start to render the scene in C4D (part_2_end.c4d), i only get the rendered font and the figures but not the whole scene. What i´m doing wrong?

    Thank´s for reply!

I’ve followed your tutorial but I’m encountering a problem. When I “ctrl + r” to see the render image all the people have black skin. They don’t have that “woody” texture. What should i do?
