Envato 3rd Birthday Bash, Day 1 – iMacs Giveaway!

We're kicking off three days of celebration at Tuts+ with a confetti-filled bang. Over the next three days we will be giving away two brand spankin' new 20" iMacs to two lucky Tuts+ readers. The first iMac will be won by 1 entrant who signs up to Plus before the end of Envato's 3rd Birthday bash (midnight Friday the 21st of August, Australian Eastern Standard Time). The second iMac will be won by 1 currently subscribed Plus member. The faster you join, the better your chances of winning!

Isn’t there a “no purchase necessary to win” option? To enter the contest, it appears there’s a forced buy into a Tuts Plus membership.
I’m not sure which country this operates out of, but you may want to check your local laws where sweepstakes are concerned.
Usually, you can have a promotion encouraging people to purchase something, however, there is usually always a “mail in postcard” kind of option for the people not wanting to make a purchase in order to participate.

Thanks for the information. Envato is an Australian company and we regularly have competitions run by big brands here where customers send in proof of purchase and can win prizes in return. It’s not illegal in any way shape or form – we just wanted to do something special for the people who use Plus

Again – not sure what country you’re operating from, however. But so you don’t get slapped with a lawsuit, you may want to double-check your requirements for entry. (And no, don’t expect said lawsuit from me… not that bent out of shape over it, just hoping to protect your interests… you have such great sites here.)
