We have another Psd Premium tutorial exclusively available to Premium members today. If you want to take your matte painting skills to the next level, then we have an awesome tutorial for you. Learn more at the jump!
This Premium Tutorial is Filled with Creative Tips
This tutorial is a collaboration between myself, Alex Beltechi, and college pal, Andrei Bacter. I’ve requested his help to bring you a bit of what we don’t do a lot on Psdtuts – Matte Painting. This technique combines photo scenery and tablet drawn details. As such, the tutorial is divided in two parts. The first one covers how to draw the actual character, which Andrei covers entirely. After that, we’ll jump straight into Part 2, where I teach you how to combine the sketch and photo with a pen tablet.
Tutorial Details
- Program: Adobe Photoshop CS3
- Difficulty: Advanced
- Estimated Completion Time: 5 hours

That looks brilliant
wooooow – one of the best tutorial i´ve seen on PSD-Tuts.
amazing…
this really rocks
Haha, knew that one was coming ;p
You’re a clever one…
Damnn that looks good makes me wish i was a member.
looks ok, good tut but just not my kind of thing but well done.
Wow! Nice work Alex, it reminds me of Benjamin Grimm (the Thing) from the Fantastic Four.
This is great! The only thing that i am noticing that looks off is the border of the rocks. Everything else looks real, but the edges look 2D/cartoonish/pencil drawn.
Amazing though!
Matte painting… something I’ve been wanting to try forever! Too bad I’m too poor to buy a membership
. Any willing donors?
IF you’d have been living in a 3rd world country I’d understand, but 9$ from where you’re at…
bah im from a “third” world country and i can afford anything u can ….without a problem
C’mon.. $9 a month? Even a poor student like me with thousands of dollars of debt can afford that hehe.
Can’t buy 9 dollars membership but got adobe suite….hmmmmmmmm.
I’m from a so called “3 world country” but I can even afford $9. lol ^_6
Looks like you need to start using the SarkMark! http://bit.ly/7pV1hg
Snap, time to renew that membership!
Nice Tutorial
Heh, now things like this actually tempt me to buy it. Put out this kind of quality tutorials and it really makes it worth it.
I think I’ll have a subscription as soon as I get home tonight.
beautiful! Nice work Alex.
Wow really nice…looks like some cool techniques in there. Can’t wait to check it out!
Now there is a style I haven’t seen for a while. NICE!!!!!
NOW I wanna be a plus again!
Not really a matte painting, there’s no 3D work involved, more of a photomanipulation with painted elements. The dark edges of the rock on the left side and the one bright cloud through the lighting off a lot too.
a matte painting does not have to contain 3D work. It can be done with any digital media.
I agree that Plus has to have the best tutorials… But there’s no need to eliminate all the good stuff we used to have in PSD Tuts “No Plus”.
Now, all the good stuff is for PLUS members… It’s really sad.
damn
gut!
That looks really good!
I would love to join – but when I choose to pay with paypal I have to turn over my master-card details. I was so desperate to join, that I did. Than I received a message from paypal that they withdrew 1.50$ from the master-card without asking, and in 3-4 days I will receive a code to complete my membership.
Sorry, I had to remove my master-card details, these paypal people are disgusting.
Why can’t I just pay with paypal the lousy 9 Bucks???
I hope someone from psd-tuts will read, because my contact efforts in the past were in vain.
Paypal does an automatic transaction to verify that your card is real. They charge you $1.50, and then they give it back to you. You now need to go to your bank and ask for a bank statement. Attached to that transaction is a small code. Remember the code, log in to paypal, and use it as the next step to set up your account.
Starting to sound like the Paypal Help Center over here…
Nice work…
awesome work dude
plz send me the Sky link use in background

beautiful tutorial, really nice.
Really awesome
Eric Shafer – matte painting doesn’t have to have 3d – it could be full digital painting with photo elements.
check out the mattepainting.org as see how many don’t use 3d at all.
I can learn the power of photoshop from this web site
Nice job!
