Of course it had to be plus! lol..I wonder where these people get their image sources of people…always nice quality..hmm

    Funky colors!

    • Dullface says:

iStock often, IE if you want to do the tutorial, you pay for the pictures too. Having done many of them, and payed for the pictures too, I still continue to do it. Of course you can find your own stock too, which is probably a better idea. I just cant be arsed often, as finding the stock is such a drag, but also a very big part of the project.

    • olliejdesign says:

That photo was from katanaz-stock on deviantart IE completely free

  2. massafakka says:

uiiiii seems to b v nice… nice pic melody ;)
    well… i really need to become plus…

    keep the mouse creative!!!

  3. loswl says:

Great looking Tut, love that rope looking effect! cool composition! I agree with Melody The source image of the guy looks amazing, would be nice to know where the author got that image, I guess the Plus members will find out.

  4. Mark says:

    Looks a nice effect

  5. Dave says:

Those ropes/vines look like a previous tutorial, but I especially like the use of pentagons instead of the typical circles to make up the light rays or lines… very creative.

  6. servant says:

bad masking, even worse shading, and awfull flow of the whines and chliched “energy” lines.
don’t see the point of clouds and mountains, just name the tutorial “abstract” and everything is forgiven…
    bad composition.
didn’t see the tutorial though, i’m just commenting based on the final picture.

  7. dimib says:

I think the point is to show some winter feel with all those cool tones (and even the man’s clothes). By the way, I liked it.

  8. mateo85 says:

    very nice result

  9. DanOhh says:

Sorry to say, but this looks like a Photoshop Disaster. The head, body, and legs don’t match. The torso is way to skinny. Not a good composition.

  10. elinix says:

i learn t a lot from this but the overall look is disappointing
    great work though

  11. aMs says:

The outcome itself has some quality stuff, it could look like a clothing ad. But there are many things that destroy this illustrtion for me. Example:

    - glowing lines that don’t glow (they give more dirt than they glow)
    - clouds could have been a good idea, but at this point – in the final image this doesn’t look right. I mean, they don’t fit (look kinda weird)
    - the yellow pattern on the bottom of illustration that covers clouds looks so unnecessary
    - and same for the blurred bolts

I know it’s bitchy to only point and not to do anything myself. But everyone of us is a designer and we sorta have our own point of view.
Nobody has to agree with me, although I guess, I mentioned some good pointers about this illustration.

  12. prosiek says:

I think this tut is not worth to be a PLUS one. Final effect is quite cheesy.

I ve seen this ‘wood’ effect before in your tutorials and I dont find it interesting.

Overall I dont like the final image, there is a lot better non-plus tutorials on this site.

    Weird

  13. Roberto says:

Hi, there! I noticed that the banner on the top is over the nav menu. Sorry for my bad english, i’m brazilian and self-teaching.

    • Diego SA says:

Hey, so do I! I’m brazilian studying english. And I have to say, posting comments here made my english get better!
And you’re refering to the flash banner right? Yeah, I noticed that too! They need to set the “wmode” as opaque. I think it’s better send a message for Envato warning them about it!

É muito bom encontrar um brasileiro aqui! Até mais!

  14. ktyellow says:

this very cool effect, looks great

  15. Jonathan Walker SEO says:

A solid tutorial, good effort – many thanks

  16. Symon says:

Now i like this very much. Thanks.

  17. SteHan says:

WOAH! Some abrasive comments here! Clearly not contributors / authors? Isn’t the point of the tut to act as a springboard to your own design projects? Rather than being the perfect design to everyone in itself? Talk about a tough crowd!

    • Mark Mayers says:

      I agree,

Anyways I like the final image, well done Alex!

    • Dullface says:

Totally agree, a lot of people here don’t seem to think very far.

      • SteHan says:

Interesting how the biggest critics on this post don’t have a link to their site

      • Jarmal says:

I have to say that I don’t agree with you, I mean, let’s say that I’m not a designer, or not a very good one, or don’t have a link to my site, that doesn’t mean I can’t criticize someone else’s work, or in this case someone else’s tut. :S

If the person who criticizes the tut and can point out what is wrong with it (in their point of view), I don’t see why they can’t criticize it.

In my opinion it’s comments like ‘This tut sucks’ or ‘This tut is a waste of time’ that are just pointless

  18. lawrence77 says:

    A PLUS one

  19. underdog says:

this model look like great…..where i can get this picture?

  20. milkia34 says:

    is nice work

  21. Diego SA says:

Cool! It’s a different composition! The mountains behind looks weird, but I got what your idea! Interesting!

  22. elmarko says:

I refuse to pay for a subscription but I’m getting so frustrated trying to figure out how to do that branch texture. Like, I can work out most of it, not what the texture is from, I’m staring at textures all day trying to work it out.

I bet it’s really obvious as well
