Learn Creative Lettering Techniques in this Psd Premium Tutorial
After experimenting with typographic illustrations, and finding myself still in the mood for something similar, I figured it was a good time to create an illustration based on lettering. With typography, you rely on a typeface that dictates the style of the illustration you want to make. The difference with lettering is that you do it yourself. It can be done with a pen tablet, so if you have one lying around, plug it in for this tutorial.
Lettering was something I was definitely interested in, but I also wanted something new and different. So I set out to make a photorealistic lettering illustration in this tutorial, rather than something purely vector, or something created through non-digital methods.

Precise and Detailed Instructions Inside
This tutorial is broken up into two parts, multiple steps, and has precise details that explain how to make this creative illustration. This is a time-consuming technique, but well worth the effort. You can apply it to create a variety lettering effects, but also to design custom foliage in illustrations, or entire realistic trees and branches. Plus members can Log in and Download! This looks pretty sweet, looking forward to running through it. Just needs a nifty background.
do you have to have photoshop to use stuff like these?
I have never tried gimp, but I is probably doable in that program too.
Well lucky me! Just what I need
nice job
Looks good but kinda flat…
tru
Wow……..
Maybe it’s not necessary be a plus member to understand how it’s done. With the three preview photos I can undestand a great part of this tutorial. Even so, I wish I had access to the plus membership.
Awesome artwork!
Sorry, four preview photos.
I agree, however the methods used may not be exactly what’s in my mind, i wouldn’t mind seeing it just to check :p
But it’s not work £6 to me, although a months access to all the other tuts, warrants a viable expense :p
Doesn’t look too technically difficult. Just a little work.
Find some fancy script text; create work path; find a nice wood texture; play with liquify, masking, and a lot of layers.
I really like the final outcome though. Nice work.
Can we get some more interface tutorials?
Nice.
Looks great! Can’t wait to try this one later today.
Very creative!
Awesome!!
Sweet, I’ve been waiting for this one.
Wow this looks like a great tutorial.
Me like much! Uber cool!
“Plus” is totally the way!! Thanks :)
Cool concept, I like the overall colour scheme and idea. However, the end result is a little sloppy. The wood grain doesn’t match up with the flow of the lettering, and that large branch going over the right side doesn’t quite fit. It looks like the result of photo manipulation, which is a problem. The leaves are a nice touch though, they really bring the image together. Thanks for the tutorial, I need to work more creative text into my designs. This helped to get the creative juices flowing.
Reminds me a lot of a tutorial I saw over at Abduzeedo: http://abduzeedo.com/incredibly-realistic-water-text-cinema-4d-and-photoshop
Different techniques, but sort of a similar result.
Cool tutorial though, I’m sure.
Now look at that! I just happend to recently finish something like that!!!
you can check it out at DA.

Ops, forgot to add: it’s totaly easy.
Just draw the letters (or find some vegy-like typo) and then just use some textures over it, some blending options for effects and voilá!
Your Fleur du Mal piece is gorgeous :)
Nice But hard for me to do .. any way thank you
This is a really nice idea, and a lot simpler than i imagined to create, with a bit more depth of colour, it could be more 3d, but it follows a whimsical theme with the light washed out colours.
fantastic
Is it just me, or is every tut becoming plus membership?
You’ll find that the ratio is about 1 Plus tutorial for every 3 free tutorials. So yah, it’s just you ;-)
im agree
Stunning
Actualy, I can’t read the word… or is that just me and my lack of English-knowledge?
Thanks for the useful info. It’s so interesting
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Very GooD…. Thanks …!!
wow thatsa nice one… i need to get a PLUS membershit from santa ;)
Looks great, except the word is almost unreadable. Lettering? Rettering? Prefettering?
Just like Pristine, I have no idea what the word says. What is the point of this if nobody can read it? Is is CSteering? Csturing? Eh?
Hmm, after much inspection, I think it may be “Lettering”, makes sense, but it’s not that obvious, as the eye is drawn to, what looks like, a “C” shape initially.
Nice result
That’s plain beautiful!! Awesome Tut!
This reminds me of an ad I saw a few years ago, (ok maybe like 10 eek). There was an afghan hound and it’s tail was working itself into a “@” it was for the Canadian phone company fido. This looks great (and better executed) and it’s interesting to see how this style of designing has evolved.
hello Nice your site. I like your design.
very nice!
This picture very nice!
but my English was poor!
AHHH… Too bad I don’t have a PSD plus membership.
Ahh, I’m too poor >.<
what font migh’tve been used?
awsome just figured out how he did it! without paying!!
superrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Nice final result, looks awesome.
