Unfortunately, the Psdtuts+ staff have had to remove a recently published tutorial due to copyright issues. Claims of plagiarism are taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated. After looking into the matter we decided the only appropriate course of action was to remove the the tutorial in question and withhold payment from its author.
Why was the tutorial removed?
Unfortunately this tutorial closely resembled an existing tut. It’s virtually impossible for us to know this before publishing, but once it is brought to our attention, we research the issue. If determined that a tutorial either closely resembles or copies an existing tut, then we remove the tutorial, as we have done here. Sorry I didn’t act on this sooner everybody, as I’ve just recently got back from vacation. We’re usually on top of these issues quicker.
We hope that potential contributors will remember to:
- Always credit your sources
When you credit your sources, it’s clear that you aren’t trying to hide something. For tutorial submissions it also lets our editors check that the tutorial is acceptable. Although Sean and I are pretty on the ball, it’s impossible to know every image, artist, magazine, so things can slip by. But if you credit your sources we’ll be able to make sure you’re in the clear. - Use common sense
There are no hard and fast rules about copyright. Beware of “rules” like “copying 40% is OK”. There’s no such thing. And remember that even aside from exact words or images, it can be the idea or principle. In this case, the images of the tutorial and wording were all original, but it was still apparent that it was not an original tutorial in itself. - Err to the side of caution
I’m no lawyer, but whenever I’ve dealt with lawyers, I’ve learned that they are always more cautious than I would be. If you think something might not be OK, then trust your gut and don’t do it.
We understand that there are only so many images that can be created with Photoshop, and similarities are bound to occur. However, when a tutorial appears to have been overly influenced by or copied from another tutorial then we must respect the creative work of the original author, as we would want the creative work of our own authors and community members to be respected.
We hope you enjoy the creativity displayed by the authors of the other 150+ original tutorials at Psdtuts+! And the many more that will come in the future!

Outcome doesn’t matter??!! How can you be motivated to do the tutorial when the outcome is not very good? Actually, very bad. Nothing personal to the author of the tut. Agree with many, if there is no good material to post then don’t post just to keep your hits up. Maybe you guys should slow down on the expanding tuts sites and keep the quality up on the existing sites you have.
The only “cool” tutorials are PLUS tutorials… C’mon PSDTuts! The quality really starts to fall…
Te quality of the photo manipulation is not that good … it could have been better!!
“the outcome doesn’t matter”
?!?!?!
The outcome is the most important thing!
You can spend a hundred hours on something, but if the outcome is poor than all that work goes to waste.
this sucks my big dick man
I agree this is not for inter/advanced users.
PSD Tuts: you should screen all the Insults that were commented on this poor guy.
Wow, there are some nasty comments here.
Just wanted to make it clear that while my comment was negative, it was more intended as criticism for PSDtuts then for the author.
Great techniques, although I don’t particularly like the outcome. The Noobs can take a few tips from this tut. though.
I agree with Alex Beltechi
I was thinking to sign for a PLUS account, but after read all those comments I realize that maybe is not a good idea, what if my tuts aren’t so special for the perfect designers around..
hahaha oh god.. this is horrible.. almost worse then the demon montage..
Wow…this tutorial got bashed to pieces. I think it is a pretty cool outcome for a beginner designer but really it is pushing them in the wrong direction…a banner like this would not match up to the quality of sites you normally get in today’s day and age…this is something we would’ve seen about 2-3 years ago at least because it is extremely graphic heavy and the little photo collage in the background is kinda…ehh…The idea behind surrounding the header with that bike is a really cool idea but the speedometer/tachometer and the two bikes faded in the background are very poorly done…and the text isn’t anything to be excited about either…if it didn’t have that the tutorial would be fantastic but i’m not liking the main area of the header at all.
I agreed that the tuto was below the average quality of PSDTuts but Im surprised for the amount of comments, so a tutorial scored as poor receive much more attentionfrom the users thank others scored as excellent.
Its the proof, people like complaining better than doing compliments.
I think the techniques utilized in this tutorial are great, but the content and the final image reminds me of Geocities’ “under construction” animated gifs from back in ‘nam.
No offense.
Most of you need to rethink your poor comments and attitudes!!
At least Lucky has tried to enrich other peoples lives instead of just being mean and unhelpful.
This site isn’t just for the ‘experts’ out there who think they know it all already, it’s for people who want to learn and if even one person learnt something new then it’s well worth being posted.
Negative comments won’t help anyone grow or learn, so why continue the circle.
-1 for Manila designers
@mirshand
PLUS has nothing to do with submitting tuts (as far as i know) – the bottom line of all of this is that there is no practical application for a design like this in 2009. The techniques used are basic and useful but the product is not something that anyone here really wants to re-create. Scrutiny comes hand in hand with being in the public eye.
Why do you set your resolution to 100dpi? If this is intended for the web, shouldn’t you have it set to 72?
But either way, I really can’t think of a reason do create something like this. It seems like a lot of work for something this amateur.
The concept is alright. It would probably have been more successful if you just created a collage image and not a cheesy navigation/banner.
p.s. I don’t care if this is intended for beginners, there is no excuse for that poor of typography. It is horrible. If you are a beginner and want to do something like this for use in the real world, don’t.
just terrible…… please don’t let this be a warning sign of tutorials to come on psdtuts? hope not…. you guys still rock though!
if you dont like the tutorial just go to other article, he takes his time of doing this everyone have to respect that! a professional artist do not make a joke the works of other person. be professional guys!
NAg aaway na sila hahalol
Well for me this wil be totally helpful for the one like us who haven’t experience some photoshop manipulation…
ok keep it up and thanks for posting
Sugoiii
i think the idea is great. its just the end result is not so great.
This is helpful in some ways of course. Some dont like it but majority does.
ok tuts but not excellent :(
Hey guys… We all have to start somewhere.
Nice concept here Lucky. Just keep on practicing and thanks for the Tutorial. Use other people’s criticism as your lesson. Marami na talaga ngayun dito kasi ang mahihilig mambara kesa makatulong e… Tiyagaan lang bro!
.. from your fellow MMA :)
well.. the outcome is not that good but, some pips can get something from it
Can someone STOP these IMMATURE so-called PRO and perfect people?
If you guys are so wonderful and all, then why do you read tutorials?
Reading the stupid comments kinda remind me of a bully back in high school…
IMMATURE… that’s the word there.
insinc the majority says it somesort of well to put it simple, say the tutorial sucks. It definately isn’t psdtuts worthy. This is something a new photoshopper would post on his/her blog when he/she is photoshopping for a bit over 2 weeks,… Come on!
Good idea, not the finest outcome ever but who cares. Tutorials are about learning new technique’s, so take what you can get out of this and move on.
Your a good sport Lucky, keep at it.
Blatantly the worst tutorial I’ve ever seen on here. Step your game up please.
good way to make a new shape out something to get the same style and everything.. but I don’t know about the final result tho’… sorry =\
Somebody knows 3darena.de? – they have 3 seperat departments:
1. is the socalled “workshop”. Beginners can show there work and ask for more ideas how to improve there skills.
2. The “gallerie”, good maded work came in to it.
3 “Vernissage”, the best work from the galerie are battle for
“work of the month” by voting.
I know this is a turorial site (one of the best- btw), maybe further PSDtuts can extend this sites…
@lucky – keep´s your had up n’ go on!! sometimes i see my old work and thinking what a crap i did. i guess most of us feel like this.
@ insic: did you make an opinion poll to make that statement?
@ Sergio Ordonez: I think the reason why this tut gets a lot of comments is because all the psdtuts fans are scared of “losing” the site or that its average quality reduces, consequently they react to it so that the message gets to the admins. Of course there are some lame ass comments like the “this sucks my big dick” dude, but hey some people are just stupid (I sounds like I’m so smart hehe but you know what I mean). Personnally, I have not seen as much positive comments on all the other tutorials here!
I’m a psdtut fan and I also don’t understand how this tutorial got through.. And that doesn’t mean I don’t wish good luck to the writer to get better.
Peace y’all :P
i’m totally agree with mike and josh comments
poor tut….i expectet more from psdtuts….who needs that crap???
psdtuts standards are really going down lately, I support Spade’s comment:
”

IM BLINDDDDDDDD
I thought there were some very interesting things in this tutorial.
Good job Lucky, don’t let the haters get you down.
If i knew a tutorial of this quality would get accepted onto the best photoshop site in the world, and got paid for it, then i would of attempted to do a tutorial along time ago.
Where’s FABIO!
As I said before, I don’t think this is a bad tutorial. Is a basic tutorial. But, we can do better things just coping, pasting and rotating. The outcome is the problem. Isn’t the technique. Is because there no design-composing-color studies here.
A hint for you: use http://www.adobe.kuler.com to help you with the pallete, and read more about nowadays design. The interviews published here are a good way to start.
My design is not perfect, and I remember when I was just starting and recolorize an eye was an amazing things, so, don’t worry about be a basic tutorial, with basic techniques! But, let’s do the better with the basics!!!
=)
And finally, nowadays we are using a lot of vintage things. Maybe the 90′s design could become the new fashion for 2010, who knows?
^^
so long PSDTUTS, and thanks for all the fish.
it’s been going downhill for a while, but the shark has well and truly been jumped this time.
It’s like something you would knock up in photoshop 4! My eyes are burning! What next I think I’ll bounce over to nettuts to look up a great tutorial on how to use Frontpage!
@Isis
The correct address for your hint is http://kuler.adobe.com
Hello everyone,
Thank you for all the comments, I’ll try to improve myself. :D
Oh my god – You created a monster!
What kills me about PSD Tuts is, they interview very inspiring people with great works of art. So I come back ritually to hopefully find a tutorial on par with their interviewee’s work. However, I scroll through this kind of drudge of a tutorial and it just bugs the crap out of me. The techniques are novice and the outcome is lame. No self respecting designer would ever create such a masthead.
And if you’re telling me that you bought this account for your wifey to learn photoshop (sorry I found that rather funny), there are much more novice sites out there other than psdtuts.com.
Lets keep this site for the professionals. Publish worthwhile tutorials
I won’t add anything new that has already said. I just think that Lucky wasn’t ready yet to write a tutorial, but at least he tried.
I know PSD Tuts wants to show something everyday, but sometimes they should say “sorry this isn’t good enough to be shown” and show nothing for 1 day. I don’t come here to see something everyday, I come here to see quality and learn some cool things.
Sorry, I have to agree with most of the above comments.
I used to visit psdtuts.com a few times a day, as the content was cutting-edge and exciting – I also bought a PLUS membership.
I have long since cancelled the membership and only check back a couple times a week – the quality of tutorials & content has dropped that sharply :(
As others have said, the author has presented the tutorial well, it’s just that the design he is creating looks aesthetically appalling (and was never going to look nice). If this is aimed towards beginners, then it should be on a bog-standard photoshop tutorial site – we have come to expect much better here.
PSDTuts need to post/respond/comment on this – remarks about the quality of tutorials have been growing exponentially of late, and loyal readers (and the source of all the ad income) will move away… :(
This does resemble greatly on a tutorial I wrote over at http://10steps.sg/photoshop/web-interface-with-car-images/
Will appreciate if there can be a credit for me somewhere :D
Also, I think in general is fine but the font for MotoWorkz is not suitable.
Thanks Johnson Koh! Now this tuts is a ripoff + a fail for PSDtuts! It’s getting nicer every day! As anybody have something more to add to the fiasco?
