The improvements are looking very nice, but the price has more than doubled?!

All in all I dont see a huge difference in ammount of content, the addition of e-books are a nice surplus and I like the courses. But the courses were allready there, they’re just being presented better these days.

I was planning on trying the new premium and paying for another premium account, but doubling the price (and not even mentionning this) made me decide not to.

Sorry, the design looks lovely but I dont agree with the new price-tag.

    • http://www.samuelorf.com Samuel

I agree. However, if they keep half of their current subscribers they will be fine; and I am sure they will. The price is steep no doubt. 15mo, 13yr sounds expensive, yet more reasonable.

    • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

Hey Tom – the courses are new, actually! 30 Days to Learn HTML & CSS, Digital Painting for Concept Art, CSS3 Essentials and 30 Days to Your First Website Design were not a part of the membership before the new Tuts+ Premium was released :) We’ll be adding around 3 new courses every month. Coupled with the eBooks, this is the reason for the price increase to $19 a month.

Thanks for the kind words about the design!

      • Tom Van Assche

Ah, I thought they were here before. My bad…

But I will wait and see, if the content and courses do prove to be worth the extra bang for bucks, I might give it a go. But for now, I’m going to wait and see.

But again, the new design does look great.

  • http://www.seven27creative.com Brian Jones

The new Premium is looking great and I love the idea of incorporating the E Books into it as well. I can understand where Tom is coming from in regards to price. However – in order to improve at anything – you will have to fork out a few extra $. It is cheaper than Lynda and Kelby – plus you get the source files. $19 a month is nothing to harp about, when you could have a $300+ monthly bill for an in school education loan / grant. Keep up the great work Envato and I will be upgrading my membership today!

I am a huge fan and user of the site and it premium content as well….the only thing that I would ask to be changed is the downloading of the html tutorials themselves. I could be wrong but that ability has been removed for everything except Photoshop tutorials.

Please give us the ability to download html versions of the tutorials that we are able to store on our hard rive and not just view the tutorial on your site. Other than that, its a great improvement guys.

    awesome <3

  • ezs

i really love your work guys, but not mentioning about doubling the price is not so elegant and in my opinion a bit to much.

  • Tom

I wanted to subscribe for 9$ but after the raise I don’t think so… 20$ Is just too much…

  • http://bagusfikri.com Bagus Fikri

yes, its too much for me.. before it i want to join the Premium.. but its too much for me as a student…

  • http://whysodumb.com Abhimanyu

Its all Orman Clark up there.. ;)

    • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

He definitely has a distinct style :). Luckily, it’s awesome!

  • dj

Sorry Charlie… only very rarely did your teasers for premium ever tempt me (in light of all the other content already available on the web) even at the previous price; but, this exorbitant jump in price seems a bit uncalled for to me and, unfortunately, a deal breaker.

    • http://net.tutsplus.com Jeffrey Way

      How is it uncalled for?

It costs a lot of money to commission entire courses, and offer a complete eBook catalog. You can go out to a modest dinner once a month for more than what we’re charging.

  • http://www.geniuzdesigns.de g3niuz

    great update guys..

    loovin’ the new feeling,
    courses and ebook section…
    ;)

even if the price should be really a problem for some guys out here…

Some changes bring exceptional elements for people. Tut plus has brought changes like this. 27 new items will be helpful for the designers. People can be benefited a lot through these ebooks, forums and so on. We expect changes like this in future.

I like the overall design of the new UI, if i will upgrade my memberhip will depend on the quantity and quality of the courses.

There is something i very much dislike about the new UI though. You need more mouseclicks to download premium content. The old UI had a nice list which made it easy to trigger multiple downloads in just a few seconds. Now i have to take a step into the premium tut, click the download button, step out of the tut and so on. Not a good user experíence.

I tend to visit the members area every few weeks or even month and then download all the latest tuts at once, this is much more inconvenient now.

It would be great, if you would make the download buttons accessible from the list view again.

    Thanks.

    Otherwise good job.

I have been a + plus member on/off for a couple of years.

Disappointed with the new direction and the big price increase.
Feels like another larger corporate training site like Lynda or Kelby Training- I really miss the non-corporate, grass roots vibe.

Will there be more tuts on Mobile design? The ebook by Smashing has been out for some time (and I already bought it). Would like to see more info/tutorials/editorials on mobile patterns and mobile UI/UX. My company is looking for a professional development resource for mobile but cannot seem to find an adequate and comprehensive product geared towards mobile design.

  • Terry

I have been tempted to sign up for a while but this price rise has put me off, I just can’t justify it at the moment. Keep uo the good work though guys.

  • rtron

You guys do fantastic work and i support you all the way.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this but there is a worldwide recession going on, so the price jump is a bit much.

Not that you don’t deserve it though.

  • http://www.brandonhalliburton.com Brandon Halliburton

I am going to be honest right now. I canceled my premium subscription a few months ago. Even though the price went up, I am considering re-investing into this.

While the addition of ebooks looks like it will make this resouce even more valuable, I’m curious if the videos posted have captions. This would be a boon for deaf designers like myself, as the narrative of most of online presentations make learning a lot easier than just “seeing it done” in a video..

    • http://psd.tutsplus.com/ Grant Friedman
      Author

Hey Kyle, it is my understanding that the videos should include a transcript at some point in the future. This was a feature that we talked about in the past.

  • Atul Madhugiri

I don’t know if this is possible but a student discount would be really nice.

  • Cedric

I could care less about the price increase, I have always been a firm believer in “you get what you pay for” but as someone who had paid for a year. I felt like tuts plus started off with great effort and very useful content and then over time quality diminished significantly, and things that where available for free where of more use than what I was paying for.Til this day the best thing available imo in regards to wordpress can be found in your themeforest blog in the woods, and even that needs to be updated.
