  13. Margaret says:

This looks like an interesting/different aesthetic from what else is out there. I look forward to downloading this and dissecting it.

  14. Mickey says:

Yeah, im glad you all sit in your little caves talking bout this one stole that etc etc feeling you’re on top of the world with your little doodles..

While the style is similar (read; similar) to HelloVon, it is still executed with perfection, and with a touch of his own style.. Dovjenko is one of my favourite designers – and if hes copying hellovon – and you obviously dont like copying – why are you here? Arent tutorials all about copying and learning?

This is handcraft + digital – theres not many tutorials like this one, so stop complaining and get on with it. Peace.

  15. kiliklok says:

The detail of the artwork is pretty good besides take a look to his work at behance.

  16. spiderm0nkey says:

Unfortunately I must agree with the others. It does look very much like a rip-off of Von. Take a look at the A in the first image here and then the A in Von’s piece ‘All is Full of Love’. They look reversed :(

    • emmanuel says:

k honestly it does not realy mater if this looks like someone elses work we usualy read tuts to learn new techniques besides if you complete this tutorial yourself i’d hope that you just take the techniques and aply it to your own seting

  17. ricardofx says:

I am subscriber psd tuts plus, but I will not look at this.
I know the author and his portfolio, he is a great artist, but I think he don´t did a good job here.

  18. Melody says:

Who truly has unique art now a days without it being influenced by one artist or another??

Besides if you’re going to complain about that, then find the originator of grunge photo manipulations lol..

  19. neil says:

Who are von’s influences? i.e., who does von “rip off”?

  20. MrXile says:

Von like or not – this is a nice way to do typography, and be utilised in whatever fashion needed, and giving us the tools/knowledge to achieve it is what PSD Tuts is all about right?

I would love to be able to try this tut, but I am not a Plus member as of yet. Just been made redundant :(

  21. digibomb says:

wow, everybody is hung up on who copied who…guess what, we are all artists, which means we are motivated by someone else work, we all have been inspired in one way or another, nothing is 100% original…even the Beatles took were influenced by the Hollies…

You all lie if you believe you have never done something similar to someone else…

Good tut, good work, keep it up!!!

  22. Mulch Diggums says:

The second sentence is missing the word “learn”.

  23. You may complain about the outcome but please don’t say it’s a rip off. Everyone get his inspiraton from many different sources and in conclusion new various art comes up. It’s same thing for musicians, everyone likes different tunes, and the music people are creating is caused by songs that they listen to.

This work is similar to Von’s and at least Kxx, and I believe some other designers. And what’s wrong with that? The guy has his own style in it. These days it’s really hard to be truely original in your work, so much was discovered that you may even not be aware that you “ripped someone’s work off”.

So, please apperciate that this type of art was shown to you, as no other site would probably deliver something like this.

    Cheerz ; )

    • Andnej says:

It is a rip off. You have different work styles I can tell you’ve been looking for inspirations. Von’s and kxx’s works aren’t similar. Their styles are the same in every pieces. Yours not.

Inspiration is copying people’s ideas. If you can come up with good ideas, you’re the best. If you’re after inspirations, you suck.

Go out, think, write, draw = true artist.

A true artist can invent in original art, look at Si Scott. Obviously we all know everyone is inspired of Si Scott when we see the flourish typography, he’s the one invented.

    • Phillip says:

      umm no

      • Phillip says:

        umm yes

      • Well, that’s your opinion. Si Scott is truely a great artist, but you can’t exclude others only because they use some inspiraton. The whole graphic community is based on inspiration (including photos, illustrations and things surrounding us).

And honestly, how can you tell who is the pioneer of creating particular effects? Maybe something like that was discovered years ago before even Si Scott got into design and you just don’t know about it. It’s a guess, but the truth is you can’t really say who was the first developer of each effect.

    • Infragable Krunk says:

Well of course every artist has their own inspiration, even great artist had some sort of influence. There’s a big difference between being inspired and pretty much copying someone’s style though. Mago has some nice work, but a large part of his portfolio is way too similar to Von’s, Kxx’s, and Si Scott’s work. I’m sure as time goes by he will fit into his own, but til then I don’t rate his work beyond “technically impressive”.

      • Jared says:

        I agree with you here…

There is a limit of being ”inspirited” and copying art.
Of course people no wa days copy some techniques, but Mago copied more than just Von’s work, also some of his work looks a lot like Cris Vector’s work.

Your’e an artist when you can come up with your own imagination instead of depending on others.
You can copy some techniques, but don’t copy too far.
Mago is copying a lot and has a high ego, nothing is truly his style, and it’s a shame he can get away with it every time. Hard truth, but yes.
