I originally developed this Vertigo logo and rendered a 3D version of it using Cinema 4D. However, for this tutorial I really wanted to find a way to get hot 3D text without using a 3D dedicated program. In this tutorial I will create shiny retro-fitted text using a touch of Illustrator and a whole-lotta Photoshop!

A Detailed Retro Metal 3D Tutorial
Here are some of the things I will cover in this tutorial: 3D Extrusion Tool in Illustrator, creating Layer Styles in Photoshop, applying Layer Modes in Photoshop, using the Blend Tool in Illustrator, and texturing to give a retro-grit to your final image. Each step of this tutorial is covered in detail.

This looks like a very entertaining tutorial. The results look awesome, can’t wait to give it a try.
I designed something similar to this a while back and used that ‘disco tile’ flooring and added the reflection of the lettering to make the tiles really glossy!

i mean its beautiful to look at, but u dont need anymore then photoshop to do something like this. kudos to the artist but i personally dont think its plus worthy:P my apologies if i offended anyone

This could have been done entirely in Photoshop.
And it is cheestastic. What happened to the real world versatile effects. Like the dusky lighting effects? or souping up a photo? I loved those tuts, i don’t care to follow someones steps to make the same picture. Or if these tuts covered something new about how to create these results. but using the illustrator 3d extrusion tools? I look forward to more versatile effects and tutorials not sing along reproductions of artworks. I have no use for a vertigo album cover.
