The center of the explosion is going to have the most depth and would be hottest in temperature so it should be lighter. As the explosion spreads, it thins and becomes cooler so it should be darker. Also, instead of placing a circle of dust/cloud around the upper part of the explosion, it would be more fitting to create clouds of dust spreading on the ground.
