Download Source Files
We have a new Premium tutorial from Tomasz Opasinski. You can see his work at his portfolio site. A few months ago when he was working on the “I Am Legend” posters, he came up with some simple techniques that are very helpful when demolishing all sorts of structures. He’s created a Premium tutorial that details this process.
Demolition Made Easy in Photoshop
The tutorial is available as a download package through your Psdtuts+ Premium membership. The download includes the HTML tutorial files, and the layered PSD as well. Below is the Final Image Preview. We’ve included the shot of the starting photo as well to give you an idea of the demolition involved.

Psdtuts+ Premium Membership
As you know, we run a premium membership system here called Psdtuts+ Premium that costs $19 a month which gives members access to the PSD files for tutorials as well as periodic extra tutorials, like this one! If you’re a member you can log in and download the tutorial. If you’re not a member, you can of course join today!
And just in case anyone feels like discussing why we have a premium system, read this post! :-)

Beautiful final effect. Looks like a great tutorial.
From the final pic, it seems interesting, maybe I should become Plus ..
Been a + member for several months. I drop it because of funds and you do this? UGH! Looks like a fantastic tut! I’m very curious.
Hmmmm, I heard about this tut a while back. Looks really interesting, maybe it’s time to try the plus membership out for a change.
oh yes! this looks quality.
just a note on the plus membership: I think you can cancel it whenever you want, so you can always just try it for a month?
Looks amazing, and I’m loving the choice for this celebrity tut!
@ godonholiday: you can cancel it after an hour if you want… it’s easy through PayPal (though you probably want to get the full month out of it!) :)
Agreed Skellie.
the final effect is mind blowing…..
I shud be goin plus now fro sure
Amazing!
Again nice effect tutorial.
Looks like an awesome tutorial. The broken part of the building are from another image yes? Instead of guessing maybe I should just join psdtuts haha. Good job!
his personal work on his site is top notch!
Omfg… I need PLUS.
Wow, that’s one helpful tutorial for everyone. Even if your already pretty advanced in Photoshop. After reading this tutorial I really think everyone who is a regular on PSDTUTS -and doesn’t have a PLUS-account- really has to consider buying or winning one. Thanks PSDTUTS. ;)
hell yeah ! this is that kind-a tutorial that says: so, you still think a plus membership isn’t that useful huh ?
just to prove you wrong….
damn! that looks amazing !
why do they have to make this for only members :(
Seems pretty good. Unfortunately, I won’t have the chance to prove it since I don’t have a membership.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
master Tomasz Opasinski
PSDTUTS did it again, i love Tomasz Opasinski
if we can get him to do us some of movie posters for tutorial that be GREAT!!!
geez i wish i was plus lol
This one looks like it’s worth the money. I’ve seen this technique used a lot.
That looks craaaazy:oo……makes my mouth water.!! uum
That’s not how those buildings would look structurally if the skin was removed. I guess it does the visual trick even if its not accurate.
more tutorial please Tomasz Opasinski
:):):):):)
Thats a really cool effect!
This is the first time I hear about Tomasz Opasinski… he’s awesome! I’m wondering if all the jobs he did are all officials. I really like how he work, never use the same technique in the designs. Perfect. Thanks for sharing some of your techniques. I’m a Plus Member, but if you’re reading this and your are not a Plus Member, you should, this tut worth it. (Sorry abt my english)
This effect looks awesome…but I must say that care should be taken when showing a damaged building. You can see some of the areas that are supposed to be damaged, but have a perfect half-of-a-window. Still a great looking tut!
Great photo manipulation.
wow that is awesome I like the final effect looks interesting tut.
anyone want to give me a free plus membership? hehehe im just kidding but it could be serious though. i love this tutorial.
Oh, this is such a nice tutorial, but i dont have the plus for a lot of tutorials by now, Can someone please give me a short term plus membership? please~
very great effect.its really a very nice tutorial for sure.
Shiiiiii%….that’s cool. Impressive, keep this up and I might have to plus;)
great creation – looks like a great tutorial for plus readers.
why you only create this interesting stuff for Plus member?
Don’t you know that Sharing knowledge is one of the immense values that we should spread in internet?
The finished image looks like modern day Detroit: http://flickr.com/photos/motionblur/2340833375
i really like comments like:
- “Hmmmm, I heard about this tut a while back. Looks really interesting, maybe it’s time to try the plus membership out for a change.”
or: “oh yes! this looks quality.just a note on the plus membership: I think you can cancel it whenever you want, so you can always just try it for a month?”
they sound sooo natural.
@Jinsey… maybe you need to review/read the previous post here about the plus membership so that you are enlightened. lol
agghhh I really wanna see this tutorial but I cant afford to sign up!!!! :(
Great final effect! The lighting is amazing, and I can’t really think how you would achieve such a great demolition effect. Nice work :)
sorry if my writing doesn’t sound natural? I was just trying to reply to those who keep posting about how they can’t get a Plus account, I was suggesting that they save up and just get it for one month and then cancel it. Do you see…. you can get ALL you want for $9 this is not a pitch on behalf of PSDTUTS its a suggestion to stop the crying.
Jinsey – Are you joking?!!! How many FREE tutorials are there on this site? how many Plus ones?
I have got to go plus
…i’m glad you guys like my tutorial… :) more to come. :) enjoy…
~tomasz
Looks amazing, this might get me to sign up for plus.

:)
thanks
I`ll going to buy a plus membership, i been waiting for this tutorials hundreds of years xD i need it for make a war movie =D
DAAAAAAAMN! This is awesome……too bad I dont have plus, I need to get it :/
One thing I noticed after downloading this.. he is missing the “destruction image” from his tutorial.. I am not one to just download the PSD and look at the steps.. I like to reproduce the effect.. hands on kind of learning.. but he is missing the source file for the “demolished” photo file. I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet.
