Solving Poverty? Start at home (assuming your home is the States)... Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian communities are starving for education and basic services such as electricity and running water. The crime rate is unreal for communities with a couple hundred or thousand people and the prescription drug abuse epidemic is disturbing... I guess that's what you get when a country allows a bunch of bootlegging mountaineers enter the 21st century with great technology such as how to cook methamphetamine on the kitchen stove while your kids help and your wife breastfeeds your newborn.

Well...I just had to have a good nice laugh at my previous comment as I stated "I think we can all agree they do much more harm than good". Obviously, I meant to make the point they do more good than harm. If you cant laugh at yourself, then you cant laugh at anything :)

Anyway, Brian, I really do see where your coming from and respect what you have done for your charities. That said, I am also proud of the way psdtuts gives back to "the community." I think I may have outspoken myself at this point :)

@Brian:

I totally and completely understand what you're saying. I would agree that it's not really helping to solve poverty, obviously, at least not in the larger scheme of things. However, PSD tuts has done a great job getting people on this site to participate in this, ultimately bringing the bond between designers closer in the sense that we are all participating, or most any how, to create a button bringing awareness. Now, you and I don't know if PSD tuts or the organization they're working with has plans to turn one of the buttons into a reality :) that's very possible. who knows. It's not that big of a deal to complain over ;)

@Drew:

I agree dude.

All are great designs. The 2nd and the last is my personal favorite, although the 2nd present the Arabic text wrong. Of course other text can also be wrong. I think the designer should have done a little more research when decided to include international text. Great design nonetheless.

I understand were Brian is coming from and it makes sense. Raising awareness can only do so much, what really is important is if the people you make aware will actually do something, like donate or volunteer.

It's like advertising, you try to get attention for your product. But if everyone knows about it and no one buys then your going to fail.

@Brian

I applaud you for your generosity towards your charity's, I really do, but as you stated, do you really feel this is the way to go about voicing your opinions? Do you feel these awareness buttons are doing any damage? If anything, I think we can all agree they do much more harm than good :) I think PSDTuts goes out of its way to try and do their part for "the public". I just dont think this is the place to voice your concerns. You could spend this time raising awareness for your issues instead of commenting how these buttons achieve nothing. Not trying to be argumentative, just my opinion.

Best Regards,

Drew
