Tutorial Removed

Unfortunately, the Psdtuts+ staff have had to remove a recently published Plus tutorial, as the final artwork closely resembles an artists existing work. When this situation occurs, unfortunately, the tutorial is removed and payment is not made to the author of the tutorial. Claims of plagiarism are taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated on this site and always something to be aware of. We appreciate the communities diligence in catching this and have removed this tutorial from the site. Thanks.

To avoid this situation, be sure to always credit your work with any influences, then we can determine accurately whether the proposed tutorial concept meets our site requirements prior to publication – learn more about creating content for Psdtuts+. Also, in general, avoid mimicking other artists work, especially closely mimicking one artists specific work. We’ll all be influenced to some degree, but the goal here is original artwork, and not recreating someone else’s art.

Looks good, but looking at the tutorial it just seems like it is a more advanced copy of the tut on 10 steps.

    http://10steps.sg/tutorials/photoshop/making-of-a-sexy-humanoid/

I would have love to have seen a tutorial on that background though, its pretty cool. Might give it ago in cinema 4d.

  2. sriganesh says:

wow have to try this :) the final image looks so good !!

    • Rui says:

Total Rip off his work. If you want to find the REAL tutorial that Michael O wrote for Advanced Photoshop than pick up the issue. In my opinion, mimicking another’s style, and writing a tutorial on how you did it – making money for the tutorial in the process is a complete joke.

    • Rui says:

its a sad rip off of the tutorial he wrote for Advanced Photoshop. If you guys want the proper techniques, hit up advanced photoshop for this issue.

      • MichaelO says:

I appreciate you sticking up for my work but I didn’t write any tutorial’s in Advanced Photoshop. They simply displayed my work on their covers. Someday I will have a legitimate tutorial that will explain my style a whole lot better than these ripoffs.

  3. Nate says:

Not only is this tutorial ripped off, it’s not even Plus material.

Would love to come back to PSDtuts and see this “tutorial” removed.

  4. icontut.com says:

@pater sawyer your right this article is a rip off of another designers work.
I wish PSD tuts would look at the tutorial and see if there are any existing ones that look a like too much

  5. Melody says:

I think it has some steps to go in realism before it gets to Michaelo’s work, especially since those are digital paintings, NOT photomanipulations but it’s a good start…

Hey is there a lack of contributors for psdtuts lately? Cause there seems to be less posts and I’ve been meaning to submit something for awhile now….

  6. Dan says:

another weak sauce tutorial, pete is right, how is this a plus tutorial?

  7. Chris says:

Am I missing something? Do I need to be signed in to see the whole tutorial or is this it?

  8. Jack says:

You have to PAY for this (weak) tut. Imho: not worth it.

  9. MMMMM says:

How come the release of tutorials has been so slow lately? Lack of people making tutorials or are you switching to fewer a week?

I have a subscription and I’m not complaining about the value (totally worth it), just asking.

  10. Rafa says:

Wow… it even looks like the same model as:
    http://michaelo.deviantart.com/art/AmalgaMATE-II-93266084

Anyway… Does the tut show how he did the room? I think I am more interested in that.

    Good tut!

  11. I think it’s a neat result. Sure it’s not super advanced or technical, but I was never under the impression that Plus was just about technical difficulty.

It would seem that only putting crazy advanced material in the Plus section would be counter-productive as it would deter beginner to intermediate PS users from signing up.

Tutorials like these are nice because they are attractive and can open up a lot of other possibilities. It may not be something that would be the best work on Deviant Art, but it is definitely high enough quality to use as stock imagery for client work.

My only complaint would be that some of the joints need more detail and realistic spacing and angles (like on the knees). Maybe some exposed pistons or ball joints in those areas?

    Overall Loredana, I like it!

  12. AEVION says:

I think that this looks very cool. It just doesn’t look all that hard to make. A bit of dodge here, and burn there, black line here, and erase there.

I would like to see at least one cool tutorial (like this) be for non-plus members every once and a while though. It seems as though every tutorial that makes me want to read it is Plus these days.

A reply to other comments: It does look like Michaelo’s work, and it does resemble the tutorial mentioned by peter.

  13. J. Revuelta says:

I agree with the comments stating how poor the latest PSD Tuts are (and I’m a Plus Member, just to mention). They’re becoming a bit repetitive, and the Pluses are not what I expected. Anyway, this might as well be just a downpoint in the graphic: noboy can sustain the level forever, there are highs and lows.

But, yes, my impression is that Envato is lacking of good PSD Tutorials lately. I don’t know why.

    Keep on good wok, anyway.

  14. Kyle says:

This tutorial is a total rip off from 10steps. /weak sauce

  15. jsavoy says:

very cool tut. but it looks like she has two right feet.

  16. André Silva says:

I think this tutorial doesn’t worth a Plus tutorial. It’s all about spending time to create some lines.

  17. wyeko says:

you deserve more than 150$ for this tutorial

  18. Jake says:

Too bad the people that visit psdtuts arent as greatful and respectful as the community from deviantart.

All you see on psdtuts anymore is “SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS.”

    • Spilled Salt says:

And like DA’s community is any better? If someone says “SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS” than that means somethings wrong. If all you get is “GREAT GREAT GREAT” how are you going to get any better?

      • Jake says:

Yes they are better, when they critique stuff I dont see them tearing it down saying stuff like “another weak sauce tutorial, pete is right, how is this a plus tutorial?”

they give useful advice and comments, instead of saying basically “you cant fix this, it just plain sucks”

    • Liz says:

“As grateful and respectful as he community from deviatnart”? We must be looking at different deviantArts… I recently left that place because I couldn’t tolerate the amount of immaturity & disrespect at that site…

Anyway, I agree it’s a neat effect, but it looks unfinished for what I’d expect from a Plus tut (I’m not a Plus member btw), I’m underwhelmed by the final image. I bet someone could make something really cool by using this tut as a starting point, though.

      • Jake says:

the MAJORITY is respectful and nice, now look here…the majority is “why is this a plus tutorial?”

theres always gonna be a bad cookie on deviantart, but the majority arent.

    • Jared says:

“as greatful and respectful as the community from deviantart.”

Haha. I’ve been on deviantART for over half a decade and I have NO idea what you’re talking about. It’s 4chan meets MySpace meets an Akihabara comic book store. Though I’ll admit, there is some art in there too…somewhere.

deviantART = Social site and community based around art
tuts+ network = Industry-level resource hub with a minimum professional standard. This is the reason people come here. This is the standard expected.

This tutorial is almost a complete mash up and copy of other people’s work, done very poorly, then distributed by the author with intent for profit. You’ll find most people here find this ethically and professionally insulting, especially from this site.

  19. Arcnerva says:

    I like it, interesting look.

  20. Arcnerva says:

I like this look. Thanks for the link to the guys deviant page.

  21. Arcnerva says:

Nice, and thanks for the link to the guys deviant page.

  22. Jagzviruz says:

This tute is not very impressive .. i remember seeing something similar on worth1000 sometime .. How I puppetized Charlize or something..

  23. John says:

I’ve read some complaints today which I don’t think are necessary. The ideas represented here are thought sparking. As a matter of fact after reading the whole tutorial I have discovered other ways this can be used. And I will. Every tutorial, whether PLUS or free, has been a delight to me [although, yes, a little repetitive in some ways]. There is always more to these tutorials than meets the eye if one has a little imagination instead of complaining.

  24. Spilled Salt says:

Lacking some of that “oomph” that makes a Plus tut a Plus tut. I mean, with this it seems all you’ll be able to do is turn people, maybe animals if you get really good at it, into robots of that style.

  25. Iwans says:

    Wow great looking…!

  26. Ross says:

Seeing as this section is psd tuts, its not much of a tutorial against some of the other mighty tutorials found on here.

Can someone point me in the direction of how to submit a tutorial! Is there a link to info on this

  27. aflipya says:

Not keen… Lighting is all wrong and the brush stokes are too obvious

  28. Omer says:

excellent tutorial i had been looking for a tut like this, thanks!

  29. Pendu1um says:

Nice, ill give it a try.

  30. Caty says:

    oh, fun project!
Ill might try it out ^¨

  31. aMs says:

it’s not the matter of “coolness”, as the outcome looks good. The problem is that this specific kind of art is being repeated over the internet again and again. I’ve seen around 5 tutorials like this. So what’s the point paying for this one?

  32. Kinda cool – kinda freaky… but nice PS work!

  33. mats says:

I like that it’s always miss mosh who gets turned into the new terminator.

  34. Brad says:

Ha ha funny – the first thought I had looking at the final image was: “That wall behind her is interesting, I want to do that.” The robot, not so much, but hey, the photography is pretty neat!

  35. On first glance I wasn’t that interested in the robot chic, but now I think if I can learn the techniques I’ll be able to apply it to some other art I’m working on.

  36. jason says:

i’m glad that psdtuts tutorials have recently turned to poop. this means that there will be more people out there utilizing these methods and creating more poop thus allowing the real hard working designers and artists to easily get the jobs they deserve.

so, three cheers to psdtuts! lowering the competition for the rest of us!

actually, this does look almost identical to the 10steps tut.

  38. jason says:

ps. this looks almost identical to the 10steps tut.

Hi, nice posts there :-) thank’s for the interesting information

Hey there! I tried this technique a while back inspired by the tut at 10 steps.

  42. Fabio says:

the left foot is like the right! O_O

  43. aflipya says:

Good point, she has 2 right feet!

  44. Christian Tobler says:

From a design standpoint, there are things I would do differently (as I’m sure every designer feels). The piece feels a little off, but the overall concept is actually really nice. It’s easy to be critical but I feel this is tuts plus worthy. You have a great article which is based off a very unique design concept which I always love to see. We can’t be shown “new things” every week but when we have quality artwork and a step by step tutorial I don’t complain.

    Great job Loredana!

  45. Tom says:

She has two right feet! You can’t cut corners on this type of thing.

  46. logolitic says:

@tom yes, she does have 2 right feets ! But overall this tutorial is great, nicely done
