They say creativity makes a graphic designer.
    I respectfully disagree.

I say its the graphic designer that “makes” the creativity.

Graphic designing, for me, started with an escape from academics and I see no reason why it should end. Though I have pretty much to learn, my honeymoon with designing continues!

    Cheers for this contest!

How can you not love to be a graphic designer! You get to work with great softwares, do research and development on images and styles, get to be creative (the best part!!!) and imaginative. And best of all, it forces you to open your eyes to the richness of colors, shapes that surrounds you every day!

  3. Sam says:

I wish I win 1000$ in order to buy the right tools and software pack to design :D

  4. seansteezy says:

Well, I would say there are a lot better comments than mine here, but… I am obsessed with two things: skateboarding and graphic design. And my love for both is tied to the one major thing they have in common, and that is progress. Endless amounts of it. Every single day you can learn something new and it will never stop going. And I also love Chipotle, but there’s no progress there, it’s always great.

  5. I’m a graphic designer because not being one would suck.

  6. I really want to start my own graphics design label so that way I can have a career I enjoy doing, I can express my feelings through my art and also if it becomes a success then it gives me the opportunity to help my parents out who have given to me so much more than I could ever return. Winning this $1,000 dollars will help me accomplish that goal.

  7. Joshua Davis says:

I love Graphic Design because it involves creative problem solving, exploring new ideas and ways of thinking. It is constantly changing and evolving which challenges me to learn and grow everyday. Design is everywhere and in anything if you just look around ;)

  8. Graphic design communicates thoughts, ideas, and emotion in a clear and effective manner to as many people as possible. I love being a graphic designer because I can make boring into beautiful and my design becomes a bridge between aesthetics and knowledge.

My life sucks but with this 1000$ it would be better ( i guess ^^)

  11. Justin jones says:

I’ve enjoyed the ability to be a graphic designer most of my life. There are simply too many reasons to explain WHY I love being a designer, so I will try my best to summarize.

The overall and underlying truth of the matter is that no matter my position in life, my economic stature, or the chaos that busies my time, there is still one thing that I can call myself: a graphic designer. It’s not just a hobby, or even a profession, but a passion. Graphic design is something that I would make life incomprehensible without it.

I love graphic design, I design graphics I love.

  12. Benjamin says:

Very cool. Glad to see contests still going on in a yucky economy!

  13. Dave Clark says:

I have heard good things from these guys at UPRINT…cool prize!

  14. Astrid says:

LOVE to design because I am a frustrated painter that can’t paint! But design let’s me realize all those visions in my head.

  15. Marcin says:

Why do I love being a graphic designer? Well..

I LOVE that sensation that runs up my neck and causes me to laugh like a insane maniac, when I create/design something that surpases my wildest expectations.

Haha, in a way, when that happens. I can imagine what Victor felt like when he created Frankenstein.

That amazing feeling doesn’t come too often because I’am a bit of a perfectionist but when it does, it’s simply amazing.

The last time that happened was when I created a Australia Day logo with a miniature VB can and Australian thongs. Haha :D

Small tip to other current and soon-to-be designers..

Being a graphic designer allows you to explore your wildest ideas. Don’t get bogged down in your day to day, sometimes spirit sapping work. Take some time and go crazy.

  16. Mary Fran says:

    OOo, I like this contest!

  17. Nate says:

    tweeted this @nshdesign.

I’m a graphic designer because of something that happened to me in 5th grade. I entered an eco-friendly drawing contest for my local chamber of commerce. My drawing won the contest and was posted on a full-size billboard for 2 months on a busy street in my hometown. The potential impact that my drawing had on all those people driving by, was something I though was just outstanding. I decided at that point that I wanted to use my art to instill emotion into viewers and design for the purpose of conveying a goal, a purpose or even promote the solidarity of the world we live in.

Now, I’ve brought my design to Japan where I hope to spread and utilize my love of expressing message through design on an international basis. I feel that the world is international and so is the language of art and design.

If I won the contest, I would use the money towards a new line of custom-sized business cards, the printing of some large-sized posters that I will use at a public design convention I intend to participate in in the near future (www.designfesta.com) as well as some other promotional materials for the event and distribution to other international designers.

  18. It’s easy to learn, yet hard to master. It can be a talent, or a skill. It can be art, it can be science. It can provoke emotions with the most minimal strokes. It is without me, I am without it, yet I love learning it. And best of all, no one or nothing can stop my brain from thinking graphic. It’s just all about design.

Graphic Design. The word gives meaning to my life: It lets me creatively express myself as a form of relatively reliable income. It allows me to fully enjoy my life because I can control how and what I create. Graphic Design can inspire people. It can move and inspire people to do greater things, and graphic design is the tool. Graphic design is what gives the internet and the world at large style. Without it, our live would be bland.

I got into graphic design to learn how to help make the world a “prettier” place. I can honestly say it has changed my life and how I view the world. And its through sites like this and convenient services like uprinting, that allow me to further my skills and further my practices.

  22. totallybitchin says:

I like being a graphic designer because it allows me, one small person, to influence the opinions and decisions of thousands of other people with one effective image… call me trim tab ;)

  23. khanalp says:

i love graphic design.. because it doesn’t belong to any nation or any ethnic origin..It is international and i love being international :)

so count me in for the giveaway ;)

  24. Matt Proud says:

I love graphic design because it is the one thing that I can use to express my creativity and have an affect on hundreds of people. Anyone can draw something in Photoshop or Illustrator but it takes a real graphic designer to put it together and create a masterpiece that is truly worth being seen by the eyes of thousands.

  25. Jess says:

I only recently got into Graphic Design about 2 years ago, and once I discovered it, I realized that it was what I wanted to do. Now, a year of college under my belt as an Art Major in Graphic Design, I can see how much I’ve improved and I am constantly renewing my designing energy. I’ve never had so much fun doing something before, nor have I felt so accomplished and satisfied when I look back at the projects I’ve completed. There is always something to learn, something to create, and it’s amazing to see one’s progress. Graphic Design expands into literally every area of life, really, and that’s why it is so exciting, because it is one of the few industries that will always expand, exist, and affect people, not many other professions can claim such power.

  26. Blimey that was worth $1000 of link juice and advertising, well done Uprinting on your marketing efforts! Matt

  27. Mediumjones says:

Communication is a problem. Design is an improvement.
Without problems, there would not be any reason to improve.

  28. Bojan says:

    …because it’s way of living…

  29. Lance Knadle says:

I’m currently working as a graphic designer within a boutique advertising agency. In a small and tight-knit work environment one is required to take on more than just the graphic design. Although, that is my a favorite phase of projects as they come and go. Like any kind of work, it’s work even though it might seem like play, which makes for an interesting day (good and bad). Making a career out of something I enjoy doing, for my livelihood, is one of the greatest aspects of being a graphic designer.

Furthermore, being a graphic designer in advertising gives one the opportunity to make the advertising message more meaningful and effective using photography, illustration, graphics and so forth; that helps the customer meet their goals, which is to sell. It’s advertising and not necessarily art. So, there is going to be some compromise with design when dealing with constraints such as timelines and budgets.

Overall, being a graphic designer in advertising is rewarding. But graphic design can be applied to many other ways in the world we live in.

  30. adams says:

you know…it is my wish, to be a good graphic designer. i am extremely new to it and the only thing i have ever made (that was really pleasing to me) is the the flickr logo for my user. check it out by going to:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/digi-x/

  31. I love being a graphic designer because it’s an honest and respected way to be creative. I love it because I love working with clients and because I love to spend all day drawing. I love graphic design because it knows no geographic borders, income levels or social class.

Good design is just good design. It can come from any source and take you anywhere. That’s why I’m here…

  32. Nils Ververs Lübke says:

Graphic design permeates the modern world. Look at the desk you’re sitting at while reading this. Look outside your window.
    Message upon message, everywhere, inescapable.
Graphic design is everywhere, and it has an enormous effect on the world, and is vastly important to the people living in it.

“Hold on a moment”, some might say, “Take structural engineers. What they design has direct impact upon people’s very lives!
Or what about industrial designers? Industrial designers must design for ultimate usability, in tandem with engineers and others, to ensure our safety. Their contributions are much more important than some commercial.”

Which is of course true. In part. But the physical infrastructure, the roads, housing and transportation that engineers create, aren’t the only
things that mold our thinking. The information we are presented with, and in some cases even more importantly they way in which it is represented,
shapes the actions of people, their thinking, sometimes whole nations can be affected at once.
    I don’t think I need to give you examples of this, they are readily available in our history books. But a message need not be political in nature to have such an outspoken effect;

Advertisements, websites, logos… A thousand voices, all clamouring for attention. Which one will be heard, and perhaps even acted upon?
The best design wins. Whoever wins, the outcome affects our lives. Consumer patterns bear upon the stock market, which in turn can influence national and even international policies. All because of logo design, branding, usability… the tools of our trade are tools that can shape the world in very real ways indeed.

Being a graphic designer can be an awesome responsibility.

But most of all, it is fun.

Thanks for the offer , tuts+ rocks

  34. Janelle Esteban says:

I don’t think I can really consider myself to be a true graphic designer, but I know I want to work real hard to be one.
I love designing. To me, it is one of those things that I can make my own.
To me, Designing is like an art. When an artist creates something, that artist puts a part of himself into his work. That’s how I feel when I make something. Sometimes my work can be great, and sometimes it’s not.
But I know that with every creation I make, a part of me goes into it, and just knowing that, makes it worthwhile.

  36. Kayzar says:

Graphic design is a profession that provides an outlet for creative minds. Unlike artists or musicians, graphic designers produce beautiful work which is also practically used, whether to advertise and promote, to hold products or to wear. People don’t just look at your work, they use it, and seeing your work in use, whether on the billboard by the freeway, or on the t-shirt of a passer-by, is something that you don’t get in other career paths.

That’s why I want to be a graphic designer.

    And it’s fun!

  37. Alexander D. says:

Hi, my name is Alexander, a 17 years old amateur graphic designer.
The reason I love graphic design is because I feel a strong connection to it. I love the fact that you can do a variety of stuff with graphic design, strating from just improving the exposure of light in different photos I took with my camera and ending up with 3D modeling as part of my graphic creation. I love how I can express myself with graphic design – The music I listen to, the mood I have at the same moment, and the feelings and emotions I have – All these affect my creations.
The reason I want to win is that I’ve been thinking for a long time to create my own clothing company. The idea was to print my own stuff on different clothes as T-shirts, pants, and later even shoes.
And that price that is offered here, should help me to print flyers, stickers, posters and all other stuff that can advertise that company everywhere possible in my city or even my country.

  38. Erik Diamond says:

There is no such thing as boring design, only boring designers!

  39. Cornel Petre says:

    Graphic design it’s without limits.
I fight to be a man without limits, to wake up in the mornig and beeing thankfull that i have a new day to do something new , something that comunicates with people i don’t and for sure i will never know most of them, but i speak to them in this way.
Talking with people close to you as culture or as far this earth is without limits or baunderies and they understand you and what you want to transmit.

this is graphic desgin for me, and i want to live as a man without limits

  40. I love graphic designing because it’s ever changing and always evolving. I find my skills change each year and it’s always exciting to hang out with other talented individuals in the design community.

  41. Sweet giveaway! Thanks for the chance

  42. Obviously, I love web and graphic design because of the fantastic feeling after creating something yourself and having others enjoy its beauty. Most of all, though, I love the community. There is no other community in the world that works together to make something better as a whole. Most industries work against each other. In this community, we all work as a whole, learning and teaching each other how to become stronger; this is why we all make the internet and the world such a fantastic place. I <3 it.
