Hey I have just come up with a new idea.

How about a HEAD 2 HEAD contest. Actually more. You decide the images we are allowed to use to create something we want. Only one submission allowed. The works will not be visible until the end of the contest.

This kind of the contest can be structured or changed in many ways. I think this will be a very interesting contest.

A website redesign would be my choice.

Slashdot.org did this last year and the interest was phenomenal. It was a challenge because you can't start from scratch, you need to abide by their brand guidelines, logo colour scheme and the general content and copy of the website. You could immediately recognise a professional from an ameteur through the design submissions.

How about a fictional redesign of a well known site we all use? How about PSDTuts.com? lol only joking, I love this website, but I'm sure we all have a website in mind that could do with a bit of jiggery pokery from the PSDTuts community? Food for thought :)

First, sorry for my english, I´ll try to do my best.
Imagine that you are a company that wants to sell a very strange and rare product (a musical washing machine, a railgun that change your way of thinking...whatever your could think). You need designers to create an imaginative campaign (maybe one poster to resume the goal).....you have to send us a short briefing with a description of the product you want to sell and who we we have to sell it to.

See you!

A greater PSDTUTS Contest - no matter in what direction your pointing at - can only be achieved if there's a meaning/goal behind each entry.

I'm not talking about to do a movieposter or something else. In fact that doesn't matter. It's also no question if someone is able to get along with only a brush or doing something within 30 seconds. Point is - a contest can be compared to a any work for a client you working for.

IMO - a design can please or not, it can be timeless or just another copy/paste work. What really matters and were I see the clue is to focus on the process of the design. It's equal to questions like: Why did someone choose a certain technique and why was it the best choice?

Designers and Contest out there are mostly zeitgeist oriented. I believe that in twenty years most of our todays design will be more then oldfashion. But why are there designs who didn't lost thier actuallity? My answer to that question is simple. They crafted something with a goal to achieve. Maybe I cannot really explain myself better but just remind the industrial design of the Turntable Technics MK2 SL-1200. It had no intention to be extraordinary, the only intention was to fit all it's functionality with the approach - build to last.

So - the find an ending point - if you launch another contest, don't just judge the final result. Judge the whole process and show it to others. Let it be part of the entries that each of the contesters have to clarify thier designprocess.

Or in other words - THE JOURNEY IS THE REWARD, Chinese Proverb.

Thanks for reading. Yours sincerly Frischmilch from Switzerland.
