14 Quick and Slick Portfolio Templates (via ThemeForest)

Having an online portfolio is pretty much a no-brainer these days. But all too often it’s the old story of the cobbler’s children who have no shoes – or in our case the designer who has no time for their own portfolio. Whether it’s because there’s too much work on, or because you can’t settle on a design, or because you’re somewhere in the middle of building the "perfect" portfolio, sometimes you just need to get something together, and fast.

If that’s the case, you’ll be interested to see the fourteen neat portfolio templates listed below – some for WordPress, some just HTML – that with a pinch of customization, and filled with your own work will have you up and running in no time.

So I should point out that in case you hadn’t noticed with all this Web Design Week stuff – that ThemeForest is owned by Psdtuts+, or Psdtuts+ is owned by ThemeForest … whichever … so yes this is Collis cross-marketing shamelessly!

WordPress Portfolio Themes

WordPress is not a bad option for a portfolio, because it means keeping it up to date won’t be such a chore. If you’re used to the interface you’ll know how easy it is, and if you’re not, check out this Getting Started with WordPress article. There’s also lots of web hosts that provide 1-click installs of WordPress – check out WordPress’s list (that way the affiliate payments go to the open source project).

Part of Web Design Week

This week our sister site ThemeForest launched a whole new category of items to sell that are particularly relevant to Psdtuts+ readers – namely Photoshop Templates. The new category means you can now design and sell Photoshop designs, as well as regular Web Templates and WordPress themes to earn a side or even full income. And on the flip side if you’re coming up short on inspiration, you can get a kickstart by grabbing a PSD design from ThemeForest. So to give the new category the launch it deserves, all this week I’ll be bringing you articles and tutorials on web design as part of our Psdtuts+ Web Design Week.

  3. Nick says:

A lot of those are really beautiful.

It’s just so ironic to be a web designer and use a template for your very own portfolio.

But I suppose they could be used for photographers, graphic artists, etc.

I’ll be submitting some of my own stuff soon :)

  4. neko says:

I am with Nick on this one…..I better not see any web designers using these templates…tisk tisk

  12. Alex Hughes says:

I’m also with nick, however they can come in use I guess.

    For example.
You may be developing your portfolio for the first time, but simply are to busy to focus on that at this time. These templates could be the answers to your prayers! ;) So basically could be used temporarily while it’s not on top of the to-do list.

  13. ss says:

thw whole Envato network just plain rules…

  14. Leventhan says:

Still, it’s rather ironic if we website designers use another’s website templates…

    Great job though!

  15. Saro says:

    Great list, thanks

  16. Fumin says:

Yes these are great designs. But if you are a designer, it’s kind of lame to use a portfolio template… Building your own portfolio is always a good way to learn new stuff.

  17. Javid K. says:

    Nick your right but….
What if some web designers don’t know how to do web coding?
Isn’t that a good reason to use a template?

Since I know there’s a huge possibility that I am wrong, correct me if I am wrong.

  18. jc says:

I think Collis uses the term grunge way too much :)

  19. Lubes says:

A web designer that can’t code = unemployed or peanut wages.

  20. Takumi86 says:

Holy shit! i wish there is a template like this on Blogspot

  21. grrrrrr8 says:

    cool stuff

  22. Keane says:

Some of these are quite busy. Don’t forget that portfolios for creative professionals should be about the work (and possibly some blog posts). When a site is cluttered with a complex UI, it can detract from how a prospective employer experience your personal brand and what you can bring to the table.

  23. Dave says:

http://demo.monofactor.com/fusion/ is an excellent folio template available also via ThemeForest.

  24. WordPress has become the most popular used platform in its category. A recent search i conducted on Alexa found wordpress.com to be number 22 in the top most visited websites “globally”.

WordPress not only makes it easy to create a blog but it has also been used to develop websites, simply because it makes it so easy to update.

    Regards,
    Richard

  25. Perseo says:

Hi, anyone using the scrolling portfolio? I wouldlike to see an example with pics loaded.

  26. Jay says:

I need a portfolio template for my landscape design business. I’m thinking of making one myself, but if there’s an easier way than I’m up for suggestions.
    Cost is always and issue.

  27. Thanks for sharing these awesome templates :) Keep up the good work.

  28. Some awesome templates are listed here thanks.. I just love the Sleek slider one ;)

  29. Web 2.0 says:

    Great templates… Thanks!

  30. Webmoves says:

    Great! Thanks for the information!

  31. Doug says:

    Hey all,

Those are great templates – I’m looking for a resume template. Themforest has a few but I’m looking for something ‘more’ – so I may try to convert a portfolio site to a resume site. Are there any other cool sites out there similar to Themeforest? I used to like Template Monster but their support sucks.

    Thanks!
