Co-sign on not using Photoshop for logos. Has to be vector to be flexible, scalable and future proof.

Some of the logo recreations look convincing in finish, but fail on the typefaces. Carefully identifying and accurately re-setting them is a critical part of the task.

Hi you all,
i´m reading psdtuts+ since the first steps and watch the whole network growing. it´s a pleasure, BUT:
everytime something goes the direction of print or anything other offline, the authors simply FAIL.
WHY: Anything (and mostly a logo) that get´s used in print or foil-cut or whatever has one rule FIRST: it has to work in black and white from extremly small to extremly big sizes. You´ll need to make t-shirts, stickers, match b/w-laserprinters-standards, etc. What is described in all these tutorials can max be the way to “modify a logo to get cooler” in the web or 4c-print. On another hand, the logo is something that will get used in every design a company has to pay (for designing, printing, mailing, etc.) So it has to be price-scaleable (4c > 1c) too. And that´s only one more out of hundred facts why a logo should never have gradients, colors or anything else than a black color on a white background (in it´s most basic version).
I really can´t understand why you´re teaching people such things and miss the absolute basics. keep on the good tuts, but please tell about the possible missstakes and missleadings for not so well-teached designers.

I have contacted the original designer of this 3D logo tutorial, and he tells me he will be reposting it to deviantart sometime soon. It really is one of the best tutorials on not just 3D logo art, but actually designing your own font at the same time.

No Matter what some people might say here, whether photoshop supports vector or not, it’s still the one great tool that most web/graphics designers use and I am a big fan of it.
