Awesome tutorial! Just one little question.. On second step on step 4, i cant get trough. My lines wont flatten out, so the 3d effect wont come. They just point upp and down as always, why? Got cs3 extended.

Im having a problem with step 10 with the polygon lasso tool. Im use to using the pen tool for selections but I thought I would give it a try this way. It’s only that I’m not really being successful. Is there a trick to getting a good selection or is it that you have to be very very precise with your mouse? Any help would be appreciated.

Why don’t you mention the Photoshop applicaiton version number at the top of the article. There are some features describe in the article does found in older version of photoshop. Its a simple one line at top. Ex. Photoshop Version : CS3

This will help the reader whether the article is useful for him or not, because he has older version of photoshop.

Cool, but I didn’t like the step where the rectangles were darkened… And also, the noise on top of the picture seemed a bit unnecessary, but the making of those rectangles and adding the texture was amazing! I love this, and I’ll be sure to use effects like this one more than once.

Hi,

I was getting troubles with Step 4 on CS3 and I think I worked out why.

I wanted to make this into an A1 poster (841×594mm) and the reason why my rectangle wasn’t made into a brush was because the brush size can only be 2500×2500px.

If you make the document size the size as the tutorial says (1440×900px) it works – well for me anyway!

On step 3, I can not rasterize my layer. I use the rectangle tool 1st, make the rectangle, skew it, then fill the path with black. Then I try to layer>rasterize, the option is grayed out.

I don’t know if I will comeback and check this soon because I’m quite busy this week, emailing me the solution will be a great help though.

Ok what the hell. Can anyone explain why in Step4, in the Shape Dynamics section, I cant get the lines to tilt towards me? I have CS3, and im following the steps exactly, but the lines only face straight up and down…

Haven’t been able to finish the tutorial due to some of the features I don’t have with Adobe CS. Going to try again later on my other computer, which has CS2. I was hoping you could add some additional help for folks with older versions?

Really Classsy tutorial the last time I saw this warp was like yesterday on a telenor Ad. They used a black and white picture with a bit darker shade of blue than sky blue worked really well and pretty.

@those having trouble with getting the strokes to angle towards you:

With that screenshot he is using a Wacom tablet (either Intuos or Cintiq) that has the capabilities to angle the brush based on pen tilt. Notice under Angle Jitter it is set to Pen Tilt? You actually don’t want that, though, because it’ll angle the strokes all funny, which is not the final result for step 5.

Thx for answering me.. And the problem was solved, it will be the same outcome even if you don’t get that 3d look in step 4..

I followed your tutorial exactly but when I got to the point where you set the brush preset, then open up the brushes window it is all greyed out and I can’t do anything. What should I do?

PS I’m new to Photoshop, but I’m very skilled at Gimp, but it is such a different interface.

I did read step 4 and all he says is to to Skew. What heck, where do you want me to skew from? the left bottom corner? the bottom middle?

Its not detailed which makes my effect when I go to the preset brush come out awful

For anyone having issues with the ‘Define Brush Preset’ option being GRAYED OUT: CS2/3 can make a brush up to 2500 px in size. CS is just 1009 px. Try drawing your rectangle a bit smaller and once it’s within those size restrictions, your define brush option will be live.

Hi, I was trying this tutorial and got stuck on Step 4. I’m using Photoshop CS2 but for some reason when i right click on the thumbnail the “select pixals” is not there?

nice tut although there are some steps that are nto well explained. for example. when applying in step 11 the highlight…. do u have to paint with white or with black? when u apply the clipping mask nothing shows. it would be nice if you can also show the layers palette as we work to compare. thanks!

Can anyone tell me how, in step 4, to get the brush to look “tilted” as if it’s 3d? I put in all the presets but it still looks upright to me.

I thought “dontknowwhattoput”’s was very original, though.

i found that first creating a long rectangle (like here) and skewing it in illustrator, then copying and pasting it in photoshop has a much cleaner effect. great tut though. i learned alot from this.
