This tutorial is another user’s request. It’s an easy technique, but I’m sure you will be able to use it in all sorts of designs. It’s very versatile. In this case, I used this technique for a logo, but I could use it to create grids with light effects as well.
Step 1
Create a new document and fill the background with black. After that create a new layer. With the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) create a rectangular selection like the image below. After that fill the selection with black again.

Step 2
Go to Filter>Stylize>Tiles. Use 10 for the Number of Tiles, and 1% for the Maximum Offset.

Step 3
Go to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. Use 90 degrees for the Angle and a distance of 60 pixels.

Step 4
With the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) select the bottom of the grid and delete it, so it won’t have that faded- out look.

Step 5
Go to Edit>Transform>Warp. Then select Flag.

Step 6
Double-click on the layer to open the Layer Style Dialog Box. Select the Gradient Overlay. Change the Blend Mode to Multiply and use Linear for the Style and 0 degree angle.
For the colors use red, yellow, green, and cyan.

Step 7
Add the text now and we have our first version of the logo.

Step 8
Repeat the Steps 1 to 4. Then instead of using Warp, let’s use Perspective and Distort.
Start using Perspective. Move the vertices to the center and create the perspective. After that, select Distort just to make some adjustments.

Step 9
Repeat Step 6 again and add a Gradient Overlay to the symbol.

Step 10
With the grid in perspective, we can apply the warp again and test different styles, below I show some variations.

Conclusion
This is a very quick and at the same time very useful technique. You can use it to create grids. Below I show an example of a grid I’ve created using it. Also you can create the effect without the grid but only with the gradient. There are lots of possibilities. It’s all about playing with the tools.

Really Interesting Tut!
this tut is easy to follow with a great result, thanks
thanks for sharing mate ^^ amazing effect
Excelent!
this doesnt work for me your options are different than mine:your grid is more visible than mine and thicker, i fallowed this tut. 3 times and i used to have the layer option to change color for multi now it being the forth time it doesnt show.
Hi, I have the same problem. Other thing is…there are no 10 tiles, but much more of them. Some things should be more specific. because they are not that obvious as they maybe should be. What is the sizes of document? It affects the size of tiles, doesn’t it?
Btw…i’ll try to do my own grid some other way…there’s no use.
On the other hand..pretty nice tutorial…Beautiful effect..but please, try to make tutorials understandable. I’m not the only one, who is confused and frustrated when some things just doesn’t work or some information is just missing.
Ok, i take it back…it’s nice tutorial. But i couldn’t use grid as filter->tiles because result wasn’t that good. But i had to use my own grid, which i defined as a pattern, then i filled it into rectangle selection. The grid is thicker and more visible. Great effect, thanks.
This is a nice tutorial. The end results look really good. Thank for sharing.
The rainbow effect is done really well. I like the glowing transition which gives it an ethereal feel. I’ve been trying to design an abstract logo somewhat like this (in essence, more or less) for myself and I can’t manage to get it looking right. It was a little bit… off somehow. Finally, I decided to use the professional services of an online logo design site instead (http://www.logodesignplanet.com) and got the logo I wanted at an affordable price and fast too, within 24 hours. I did provide this link for reference and inspiration to my designer as I liked how yours look. I’m not going to design a logo without any professional help anytime soon although it’s fun designing it or trying to. Hah!
gud site for learning
Thank you for this nice effect i like it very much
Waw this is greate…. i’ll try that… :D
Thx for sharing..
I just get a blury grid when I do step 1.
its nice i learnt thanks
can someone tell me what is the name of that font for “PSD TUTS” writing? I would really appreciate for answer. THX!
would want to thank you for the efforts you get in writing this article. I’m hoping a similar best work from you sometime soon as well. The truth is your creative writing abilities has inspired me to begin with my website now.
Ah, no images are showing. :(
Easiest yet classic. This is amazing for begginers.
At the beginning when paint the background Black and add a new layer, as you create the rectangle (M) And filter is to tile, it sais:
“Could not complete the tiles command because the area selected is empty”
