One question my friend, did you use photos for the can?
Lyndon,
Sure did. Essentially, this tutorial demonstrates techniques utilizing channel information (highlights and shadows from an image) to re-create those highlights and shadows that you can then place on top of artwork. With this, you can also perform accurate color changes as well (say for example you want to change the top “lid” to a gold, or the base color to a red). Really, once you understand the techniques used, you can apply these techniques to anything, not just a can.
At my previous job, we used this technique on all of our presentations to clients. It really is a great way to step-up the level of presentations to clients. Not to mention the endless supply of product photography out there (google) that you can lift highlights and shadows from to apply on your own creations.
Also, for all the premium subscribers who download this, they will see some great extras that I included as well: The plastic wrap on the top of can (which isn’t shown), and some water drops and condensation that give the can an out of the cooler look.
Hey man, thanks for the thorough explanation of your tut. I think I’m gonna make a plus purchase to check this out
Just gotta schedule a little bit of that free time
well, he didnt include the wrapper or drops in the tutorial, however, he does have them in separate folders on the project file…

Premium Membership , i will try to register..
really great tutorial, nice job!
only for PS CS5?
I think you can use CS3 and CS4 for this.
Thanks!, I mean I can“t open CS5 files (source) in CS3 version (also CS4) ! : /
lol thats not important. But only for premium members? :@
Diana,
All of the techniques used can be used from Adobe Photoshop 6.0 thru CS5. Some of the dialog boxes may be a little different, but it is essentially the same. Please let me know if you run into any issues due to an older version of Photoshop and I will do my best to help resolve.
Thanks, Tim! I will let you know here.
I Hate the premium Tutorials because they are always good and i cant do them because i don’t have premium.
Wow, but for just $9 you can get A LOT of great stuff, and I think is fair for the quality content that PSDtuts offer to us
