One question my friend, did you use photos for the can?

      • Tim Kyde

        Lyndon,

Sure did. Essentially, this tutorial demonstrates techniques utilizing channel information (highlights and shadows from an image) to re-create those highlights and shadows that you can then place on top of artwork. With this, you can also perform accurate color changes as well (say for example you want to change the top “lid” to a gold, or the base color to a red). Really, once you understand the techniques used, you can apply these techniques to anything, not just a can.

At my previous job, we used this technique on all of our presentations to clients. It really is a great way to step-up the level of presentations to clients. Not to mention the endless supply of product photography out there (google) that you can lift highlights and shadows from to apply on your own creations.

Also, for all the premium subscribers who download this, they will see some great extras that I included as well: The plastic wrap on the top of can (which isn’t shown), and some water drops and condensation that give the can an out of the cooler look.

      Diana,

All of the techniques used can be used from Adobe Photoshop 6.0 thru CS5. Some of the dialog boxes may be a little different, but it is essentially the same. Please let me know if you run into any issues due to an older version of Photoshop and I will do my best to help resolve.

Thanks, Tim! I will let you know here.
