There are a number of ways that you can color correct an image in Photoshop. The method that we are going to be demonstrating in this tutorial is through the use of a curves adjustment layer. Some of the advantages of using a curves adjustment layer for this type of correction is that the image file size is minimally impacted and you can easily go back at anytime to modify your adjustments if your not satisfied with the results. Let’s get started!

    FYI to find the greypoint,

    1. Fill a new layer with 50 percent grey
    2. Set layer to difference mode, any black area is the grey point.

    (in difference mode all similar pixels to the layer below turn black)

    I always keep white balance a little off. This makes photographs more interesting in my opinion.

    If you’re trying to correct the color of the image you don’t want to find the point that is currently grey, but the point that should be grey. This is why, in the example, selecting a grey point in the naturally bluish clouds turns the image to a warm tone.

    Blur>average your original image to find the greypoint.
