This Premium Tutorial is Filled with Creative Tips

We’re all aware that an ecosystem is a living community of plants and animals that share the same environment, but what happens when the natural world and man-made technology amalgamate to form a harmonious coexistence? In this tutorial I’ll walk you through the process of creating such a world by combining stock images and 3D renders.

Mark is a talented designer and illustrator from the UK. He has worked as a designer and creative director for several design/advertising agencies and specializes in print, branding, packaging, and exhibition graphics. Mark began his career when the tools of the trade were markers, layout pads, and most importantly, the ability to draw, but he embraced the digital revolution in the early 90′s and swapped his drawing board for a Mac. Today, Mark freelances from his studio in Cornwall for such clients as American Express, BMW, Future Publishing, IDG Communications and Imagine Publishing. Log in or Join Now to get started!

Very nice outcome, and looks like a very good tutorial. My only sincere criticism is that I think it requires a tab bit too much software. People used to gripe about C4D when it started becoming more common on here, but now it’s so usual that people have stopped. I guess I’m one of the few that still dislikes it. I typically come here for Photoshop-only stuff, so odds are likely I won’t be doing this one. I think the reason this is such a common problem is just because all these software suites are so insanely expensive, and not everyone is willing to just cave and torrent them. PS CS5 alone is almost $660. Add C4D and SmithMicro Poser Pro and it’s over a $2000 total. Ay dios mio!

    • I agree 100%. I don’t own C4D and can’t afford to purchase it. It’s depressing when I can’t participate in a fabulous tutorial.

You can use Blender (www.blender.org). It’s at least as powerful as the more familiar 3D-packages (maybe even more so) and it’s completely free.

    • flyingfox says:

Yup, go for Blender. The new 2.5 has a very decent interface and is really powerful. It is definately good enough for Photoshop artists to construct and render 3D models that you use in your composings. It even has a powerful sculpting feature that you pay extra money for in commercial software.
