Final Product What You'll Be Creating
This week we are celebrating the launch of PhotoDune, Envato’s new stock photography website with a series of photo effect and photo manipulation tutorials that showcase the images from our new marketplace. Adjustment layers are a powerful feature in Photoshop. They prove their usefulness time and time again. In this tutorial you will use a Curves Adjustment layer and additional techniques to change a scene from day to night. Let’s get started!

I’m sorry, but this is terrible. Even beginners should NOT follow this tutorial. This does NOT teach good practices and just looks absolutely horrid. This tut should be removed as it is not on the level of the other Envato tutorials.
You damn right!
I’m sorry you don’t like the final result. What would you have done differently?
I wouldn’t normally comment but yeh.. that looks incredibly fake.
+1
I think the bird and the moon size make it not realistic!
Definetely not in the same level of the other tutorials we have seen on this site. Just simply seens very fake.
the result may not be the greatest, but there ARE a lot of valuable tips in this tut. The effect on the headlights, for example, is really cool, and the overall idea is a good one.
I dont really like the final result… Looks so fake… Really blurry/Irregular Moon…
When viewing view these tutorials, I first react to the overall visual product and then decide if the tut process has some review value. This product does not stimulate a student to learn. Editors should exercise a higher standard about what the company posts so that the creator is not misled about the quality of the post and experience unnecessary criticism from an audience expecting finer work. And yes, even beginning tutorials can have an attractive use of design elements.
Wow… It’s really a gr8 trick… thanks
Grant, please do improvise or remove this tutorial for it does not meet the standards of other tutorials here.
Regards.
Bird is not so good, but the final piece is kinda good. I don’t see the bad part about this and there is some good tips you can take with you one another piece. I have seen worse tutorials in Advanced Photoshop.
Also, I find it extremely annoying that people tell PSD.Tuts to take it away because it suck. Let other people decide if they find it useful or not. It is not up to you to decide what other people like.
it is not the best tutorial that is for sure and it doesn’t look very realistic either but for beginners it’s ok!
Love this effect, but I use it in AE. You can fine tone the footage really fast.
Guys, who cares about the outcome?
I would say, that a beginner would learn a lot out of this as this explains basic behaviour of PS – just think about the numpad and the opacity. There were other things explained as well that will definetely teach a beginner some stuff.
If you guys think you would do it differently and in a more professional way – than this tut was clearly not aimed towards your target group.
Deal with it. The tuts network not only deals with professional visitors that know already everything and want to do some world class kick ass nuclear sparkling entrepreneur artworks. There are also people here who clearly need the basics as well – and as far as I remember, I belonged to one of these guys as well. But that was at a time before psdtuts exsisted. I would have been happy if psdtuts existed already at that time, because than I would have also known, that I do not need to look for another website and just grow with the flow.
About the tut:
For me useless as I have known most of the techniques, however good work, you explained it very good in a way of speaking. You spoke very clearly and the effort is paid out as I suppose : )
I just wonder how often you actually recorded this ? It would probably take me a day to get that speaking perfectly without a cut!
Fair enough not everyone will like everything but if you’re going to condemn other peoples attempts at trying to teach people skills, put your money where your mouth is and create tutorials.
Lol this is one of the worst tutorials on PSDTUTS for sure.
Thank you so much AJ wood .. i’m sorry if I’m wrong n your name’ spilling ..
but really your tutorial ‘Turn the photo from daytime to night time” is amazing ..
you gave me small tips in photoshop I have never heared before ..
So thank you so much ^_^
Thank you, love all the tips as well!
As a true beginner using photoshop, I found this tutorial very helpful. Thank you.
i enjoyed this, i am a just starting to learn photoshop and really enjoy it, it was not very advanced and not really that complicated or the end product was not the best, but i thought you showed a nice technique that i did not know, and you were very enthusiastic. thank you
Really The bird and sky is Photo shop technique
I think people are missing the point of this tutorial. It’s not about how pretty the end result is. I found some interesting and useful tools that I had overlooked within the tutorial. Perhaps A.J. isn’t the best artist so instead focuses on knowing and learning the tools. Anyone can learn something from this tutorial.
It is very very attractive tutorial. I like its. I should be try to follow your instruction to make that type of situtation. Thanks you very much.
Thank you for this nice quick tutorial
How beautiful scenery is! It makes me astonished. I would like to make another one with the help of this tut.
alrgt hats off. dun want to comment about the pic u used and all that but this tutorial gives an IDEA for the future ps work u’ll do and i think that is all its about its wasnt about making dis pic so ya nice work dude :) this is HELPFUL
Maybe on the head lights you could add a yellow photo filter. the moon is far too big. And you could have added a gaussian blur to the bird. But thanks for the method of day-night. and thanks to for the clouds filter.
