When doing floral work, use color. I had to stair at this for a good while before I could see any floral, final piece is shocking.

definitely interesting, would love it in color (being flowers and all) instead of black and white though

    Great Work :)

    Great Job….

    but PREMIUM =[

  • J. Revuelta

Mmmmm… Sorry to say this, but I’m seriously thinking about my premium account and if it is worth it. Premium tutorials are going low-rate lately.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, however Pomme has done this style of type work for the New York Times. She’s a sought after illustrator appearing in numerous digital publications and works with top clients like Sony, MTV, and others.

Calling this low-rate is far off the mark. If you don’t like the style or something, that’s your opinion, but if you’re going to call something low quality please give some reasons. I personally think the style is awesome and can see why she is represented by an agency I really like, and why she attracts such quality clients. Thx.

Great reply! Awesome style and depth in the work. But as you can see, sometimes great design is difficult to understand. It’s something that will probably always intrigues me.

Ever since I found out about this site, my Photoshop skills have grown to levels i thought i couldn’t reach. I never hesitated in paying for a premium membership to learn valuable information such as this tut. I spend hours analyzing other people’s work and try to do stuff on my own, and this article is no exception.

I’ve downloaded it and I assure you, the PSD file is really clean, organized and you can learn from it of you simply expand the layer groups and layer styles.

You are not right and your statement has no substance or backed up with a tangible argument. Bring more detailed proofs to the table to sustain your statement.

All I can say is Thanks PSDTuts, for another great piece!

      J. Revuelta maybe you can show us if you can do something better than that ;)

3 out of the last 7 tuts (not quick tips) have been premium. Everything good on this site goes straight to premium nowadays (well, almost everything).

    • http://sessions.tutsplus.com/creative/ Sean Hodge

Hi, we publish 2-3 full length tutorials on the blog each week in addition to our other quick tips, freebies, and articles each week. We have 1 Premium piece of content each week. Thx.

      • Denny

        Hey Sean,
I am a premium member but one thing that irritates me is files not coming with actual stock pictures. A PSD is good, but what is the use of it if I am trying to practice. I don’t want to download a completed product but the files that went into making it.
And for those complaining about premium membership prices, you are ridiculous. Its a good price and if anything you are only investing in yourself. I am just not a fan of not including stock photos in project files.

    • Casual

Well, you can’t expect to have everything for free. If you feel like you’re missing out on something, throw some dollars in the cookie jar.

This “I deserve everything for free”-attitude, that seems to be spreading like the plague, is as mind-boggling as it is annoying.

      • Chanty

I’m sorry but in my opinion, you shouldn’t have to pay in order to learn something. Especially on the web. It’s no big deal if you need to make some money as a website as I’m well aware of the costs, but why can’t there just be a donation button for people who appreciate the content and are willing to donate a few bucks for the effort? Ever since the whole Premium program got introduced I have visited this site less and less. While I used to be a very frequent visitor, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. The whole “pay for content” concept just scares away visitors.

      • Candice

Shouldn’t have to pay to learn….not sure how sites like this are supposed to keep in business being that they pay handsomely for these very tutorials. There is so much generosity in the freebies section. So much more than most sites of this caliber. Having PAID to get a degree I can say this with certainty: paying the shockingly small price for premium here sure beats the loan repayments I have.

I do agree on the black and white – it took awhile to figure out it was floral. HOWEVER that strikes me as opportunity to expand on awesome techniques and make it my own….which I’m pretty sure is how a designer is supposed to think. Thanks for every psdtuts team and tutorial contributors.

      • http://sexidesign.com Melody

        @Chanty,

The donation button is hardly used by readers because if people feel as entitled as you do to “free content” then no one will donate. A website, especially one that grows in size, has around the clock maintenance via new posts, site maintenance, new contributing authors, reader/author contact –just to name a few.

Apparently paying for content doesn’t scare away visitors because it’s been used throughout history for all shades of businesses. Heck, you pay for your local newspaper right? Who then gets sponsors, ad money, and other associations to keep them afloat.
It’s disturbing the ignorance of some readers to feel so entitled to everything on the web when there are real people spending real time and effort putting forth quality material.

Be thankful you don’t have to pay for ALL content (premium or otherwise) online…

      • http://aevion.net AEVION

        @Melody,

Actually, the donation concept is not useless… Wikipedia runs purely on donation money (no ads) and they are dedicated to free learning.

So a website can definitely stay solvent without premium paid content. They just make more, when they introduce it. And plenty of websites make enough money to satisfy themselves just by selling ad space (youtube, hulu, facebook)

A website such as psdtuts has a large amount of traffic, and sells plenty of ads. I’ve done an estimation of their yearly earnings before (using their buysellads info) and they make close to a quarter million a year (by just selling ad space alone). They have 1072 posts on this site (a lot they didn’t even have to pay for), but still they could pay all of that off ($160,800 with $150/post) in less than a year. In short, I don’t think that they need the premium money… but this is a business, so I understand that they want to make as much money as they can with it.

  • http://www.psd-dude.com PsdDude

Interesting idea but the final result is not so good … maybe the black & white tone is not the best choice :) but i am sure it is an interesting tut!
