The result looks awesome, BUT I have a minor complaint about the content of this site as of late.

Looking back over the last 9 posts on the site, there have been:
Two premium tuts, Two basix videos (that I cannot play for some reason), a post of samples of others’ paintings, a contest/giveaway (thank you!), an interview (video which I still can’t play), a tut regarding Microsoft Powerpoint which is loaded with ads for purchasing templates, and one regular PSD tutorial which was originally published in July of 2009.

Now, granted the video problems are my own, but you can see how over the course of 9 days, there has not been a single new Photoshop tutorial except for premium subscribers. Kind of discouraging for what I consider to be THE ABSOLUTE BEST PSD SITE ON THE WEB!

You guys are doing a great job bringing cool new stuff to the table and uploading content every single day, just wanted to share a constructive observation from my perspective. We could use some more free PSDtuts for non-premium members! Your site is already monetized with ads, throw us poor folks a bone!

Keep up the good work, guys!

My mistake, I left out one new tutorial published this week: the surreal portrait composition tutorial. A decent tut with some good techniques.

Thanks for the comment, Bryan. We are doing our best to provide you guys with as much free content as possible. Sorry for your video problems. I hope you get them worked out soon. Try upgrading your browser and see if that works. Just keep in mind that 5/6 of every article we publish per week is free and while there is an occasional exception, we typically publish 3 free tutorials per week.

Agree 100% with Bryan. This site has really gone down the drain. The quality of the free tutorials have taken a very hard dive.

      • MrSpanky

complaining about FREE tutorials is as lame as it can be.
im ashamed some of you are designers like me.
        unbeliveable

I was simply offering constructive criticism for a site that I truly love and appreciate. I love the variety of content, and a lot of useful techniques and knowledge can be gleaned from almost every post. My perspective is just that there have been less new free tutorials of late, and I would love to see this trend reversed.

The premium content looks like very good stuff, but I personally don’t feel those tuts would advance my skills enough to warrant paying for a subscription. And since this site is already monetized with ads, I just felt that we could stand to have some more quality free content.

Grant, thanks for your follow-up, I really do appreicate the great work you’re doing. Keep it up!

Bryan, keep in mind that while we do have advertisements on this site, they don’t even come close to covering our costs. The premium program is what pays the bills around here and is what makes it possible for us to do what we do. So if you’d like to see more free content, the best thing you could do is join our premium program.

The outcome of this tutorial is oddly similar to a tutorial posted on abduzeedo a few days ago.
