When Content Aware was added to Photoshop CS5, people described the feature as "magical" or "impossible." Now that we have had a couple years to get acquainted with it, most people find it to be an incredibly useful tool to have in their arsenal. In Photoshop CS6, the Adobe team added a content aware option to the Patch Tool. In this episode of our Introduction to Photoshop CS6 series we will explain how this new feature works. Let’s take a look!

    I think the image of the woman still needs a little work. Because you can see “white circles” around her eyes, because the skin tone from the sample image is a little lighter. And this can not be done with the Content Aware Patch Tool only… But great tutorial still.

    “I’m going to select the left eye”… so why did the right one get selected? ho ho.

    • Spencer

      He did select the left eye……………….

        I, for one, prefered the part about “grabbing the eye” ;P – morbid, as it sounds, it’s also funny ;}

        Her actual left eye is different from the eye that is on the left side of the photo. I think Phil was making a technical joke. The guy in the video selected the eye on the left of the photo and called it her left eye, when technically it was her physical right eye.

    Great I only wish I could afford the upgrade to CS6.

    The portrait photography of the girl is awesome! Could you give info on where you got that from?

    For non-native English speakers like yours truly it’s kind of disconcerting to hear instructors say “I’m going to go right ahead and do this” as opposed to just saying “I’m going to do this”. Could you enlighten this poor sap as to what “go right ahead and” is meant to convey? I heard this repeatedly in this video and I hear some instructors do it all the time in video tutorials.

    Thanks in advance.

      The phrase “I’m going to do this.” has the same meaning as “Go right ahead and…”. From a grammatical point of view, “Go right ahead and…” is slang. In recent years, several slang terms similar to this one have been generally accepted in the English language. Simply put, the voice over in the video is just telling the audience to complete a set of action(s).

      I hope this was helpful.

    I am surprised no one has noticed that the left brow is visibly shorter than the right. A photographer would spot that straight away, let alone a picture editor.
