Create a Gold Necklace in Photoshop Using Filter Forge

Final Product What You'll Be Creating

You can produce a gold or metallic effect in Photoshop in several ways. Many of those effects, however, take quite a bit of time to produce and sometimes, you just need a quick option. In this tutorial, we will explain how to render a gold necklace using Photoshop and Filter Forge and then apply that render to a photograph. We will begin by explaining how to create the necklace using custom brush settings, then we will explain how to quickly apply a gold texture to our artwork. Finally, we will explain how to add some finishing touches. Let’s get started!

    Dude…lens flare…really? What is this…1998?

    • Matija

hehe…. at least some more subtle effect and with Knoll light factory probably.. standard PS flares are so overused since beginning of time :)

You know the editors warned me that using a lens flare in this tutorial would create a backlash of comments specifically about that. But considering the final design mirrors a lot of hip-hop artist flyers, etc, I thought it was viable to include it. Especially as big word gold necklaces are a throwback to the late 80s and into the early 90s, the factors fit for me. Of course, you’re free TO LEARN from the tutorial and build it your own, this is after all only a demonstration on Photoshop techniques.

    Lensflare… oh ffs…

This is a good tut . . . why people bother dropping blunt comments about the lens flare . . . quite sad really let alone totally unnecessary, just leave it off if you don’t like it. Also it’s worth remembering your’e visiting a tutorial site – so how amazing is your own creativity? Why not put your creative ego in the drawer and just take something away to learn. Thanks for taking the time to post Grant, I think it looks cool.

Thanks Joe, glad you like my tut. You hit the nail on the head, the idea here is to share knowledge so that others can go forward and advance on the techniques shared. I love seeing what people build from the tutorials that I produce for PSDTuts and I hope others can learn and have fun making something from it.
