Are you new to Photoshop? Have you been trying to teach yourself the basics of Photoshop but have found the amount of educational material available on the net a bit overwhelming? As the world’s #1 Photoshop site, we’ve published a lot of tutorials. So many, in fact, that we understand how overwhelming our site may be to those of you who may be brand new to Photoshop. This tutorial is part of a 25-part video series demonstrating everything you will need to know to start working in Photoshop.

Photoshop Basix, by Adobe Certified Expert and Instructor, Martin Perhiniak includes 25 short video tutorials, around 5 – 10 minutes in length that will teach you all the fundamentals of working with Photoshop. Today’s tutorial, Part 1: The First Rendezvous With Photoshop will teach you about the user interface, and the customization of keyboard shortcuts and workspace. Let’s get started!

Thanks for this terrific session of Photoshop tutorials! Any chances of doing a session of InDesign beginner tutorials? That would’ve been fantastic, thanks (:

    Hi,

Awesome tutorial, thanks! Just a quick question. When I tried to combine two images of different sizes into one (at 2:30 in the video where you drag one image into the other to create a new layer), it doesn’t have the same effect. It seems the larger image is restricted in size by the smaller image, so I can only see part of the larger image, even when I try to move it around.

    Any solution for that?

    Thanks!

I was desperately trying to zoom in/out with crtl/space+click-drag, until I decided to google the problem. Well, it works only in CS5 and only with GPU enabled as stated here: http://psd.tutsplus.com/articles/tools/awesome-keyboard-shortcuts-photoshop/

    • App~

You can also use “alt + mouse wheel” to zoom in/out.

    Jasmine,

You must select the Move tool (V) and move the larger image until you can see the corner of the image. Then you must hit Cmd+T (or Ctrl+T for PCs) and move the mouse over the corner until you see the double arrows. Hold down Shift to constrain proportions and drag until it’s almost out of site. Keep sizing down until the image is the size you want it and hit Enter/Return.

@Kat – thank you for your reply! Got it to work now!
