I really appreciate the graphic design tutorials you guys did till now, but… digital art?

Adobe Certified Expert and Instructor, Martin Perhiniak…that title sounds really great, but I really wanna think that the girl above is NOT made by you. It’s poorly made, seriously.

You talk about composition rules and you come up with that girl? The composition has absolutely no center of interest, my eyes are drawn to her belly button as much as to her face, and that is really wrong, for an expert…

The examples of composition you mentioned are not the best either. I’ve seen tons of better concept artworks that use light effects properly (to obtain a contrast), and that is the beauty of it.

In a composition you must have one third different than the other two thirds, (one third darker, and two thirds lighten, or the other way around, as I prefer it) and that is where you want a contrast, and adding your center of interest.
Your girl has everything detailed at the same amount, and that creates a poorly executed painting.

Again, I really appreciate what you guys do, but I think digital art is much more that knowing Photoshop and having some minimum freehand skills… And just think of it this way, the power of example is the best teaching method… and the example of the girl you gave us… is not exactly stunning.

I am an experienced artist of “the Old school” Everything from Etching to trompe l’oile. My favourite medium being pen and ink. What I want is to be able to do it my work with the creative suites available to me on my computer (just think of the space I’ll save!)
I also am very new to computers. I am not all that ‘computer literate’ having only had my Mac for a couple of months….and that is my problem. Once I can combine my experience of art with the familiarity of my OS, I know that there is nothing to stop me being as good as I can be!
Your ‘tuts’ show me the way……
    Carry on Martin and thanx
