Naming your layers is the the first step if you want to take advantage of some of the new layer search features in Photoshop CS6. In the past, naming your layers meant double clicking on each layer individually. In Photoshop CS6, however you can quickly tab through your layers just like you would if you were filling out a form online. In this episode of our Introduction to Photoshop CS6 series we will quickly show you how this new feature works. Let’s get started!

That was probably the quickest tip I’ve ever seen. The title literally says it all. :P

Well thank god for this. double clicking a layer name was sooooo laborious and hard to do. This alone makes it worth the price. :|

The PSD file that you’re using shouldn’t make a difference. Maybe it’s a bug or glitch? Have you tried a restart?

Tab by default hides all the panels—does the tab through layer feature only work when you double-click on a layer’s name?

Thanks. Got it to work. First have to have the layer selected or highlighted and then you can tab through layers. For me it is great.

Yes, you have to double-click the layers name and then tab through them.

helping tips and can you please give something on batch processing for bulk rename bwcause this is also required to designers.

this is not helpful. the tab key is not engaged until you double click on the layers. So basically, you still need to double-click on the layers, plus use the tab key.

  • Undecided Games

If I press Tab after double-clicking a layer (starting a rename action), the rename action is ended. It does not move through the layers. Have you changed some UI setting to enable this?
