Final Product What You'll Be Creating
Photoshop is an excellent tool for manipulating photographs but it can also be used as a means to create stunning digital art. This tutorial is part of a 25-part video tutorial series demonstrating everything you will need to know to start producing digital art in Photoshop. Digital Art for Beginners, by Adobe Certified Expert and Instructor, Martin Perhiniak will begin by teaching you how to draw in Photoshop. At the conclusion of this series you will know all you need to produce your own concept art and matte paintings in Photoshop.
Today’s tutorial Part 2: The Brush Panel and Using a Tablet will explain the most important options in the brush palette, explain the differences between a mouse and tablet for digital art, and will also explain the differences between the Wacom line of tablets and which ones are right for you. Let’s get started!

Size & Hardness for PC is just Alt + Right Click
Great tutorial. Thank you! I believe that ctrl+alt+cmd in CS4 enables the brush hardness option rather than the color wheel as in CS5. Is there a way to access the color wheel you showed here in CS4?
Very good material. I can wait the next tutorial in this series. Thank you.
Thank you for this great series. I also would like to know if there is a way to access the color wheel in CS4?
Great Tut. again, thanks Martin
Hi guys,
Thanks for the great feedback, unfortunately the HUD colour picker is only available in CS5. Thanks ‘hmwdev’ for the correction about the PC shortcut!
Cheers,
Martin
Thanks for video
Why is the color picker not coming up for me? Im using CS5 on PC and all I get is the double arrows for duplicating when i do crtl + alt + shift
Check Preferences->Performance you need to enable OpenGL Drawing as Martin said in the tutorial. And you need to Right Click when holding Ctrl + Alt + Shift.
Awesome TUT for a beginner on Tablet, Thanks mate for such a great TUT.
Awesome Tut. The video was well instructive
This tutorial is great but btw: I still can’t find some usable tool for checking of brush – files. I have about 50 files and always when I am looking for something it is horrendous. Any idea for nice app? THX
Agree with you. I usually rename brushes with more descriptive names, splatter_1, splatter_2, clouds_1, etc. Keeps them alphabetized too.
Is there a way to download the video for offline use?
Yes, a simple easy way for you is to search google Internet Download Manager, once installed, restart your browser (i am using FireFox) and once you start the video, simple hover your mouse towards the top left window, a text saying “Download with IDM appears) click this and click OK, there is no need for converting.
Friendly tip, choose HD before clicking and then look for the largest filesize.
Hope that helps.
About the tut, am loving these. Looking forward to making something basic (i never dew so this is a huge step for me
).

I found this tutorial very useful! Very carefully explained and attentive to details. Thanks! Looking forward to use my wacom tablet!
Excellent video! The best I´ve seen about brush settings, wich wacom tablet are you using? I see good pressure levels on my bamboo too
Fantastic tutorial, thank you very much!
great! but I can not see it. How can I see it?
Ive been using photoshop for about 18 months…ive just upgraded to cs5…got a bamboo tablet…and i love them both…Your tutorials are the best…most informative…and you do not prattle on about how wonderful you are or try to advertise yourself…which is the common fault on most of the youtube tutorials ive found! I am going to continue through the full series of lessons because even on the first lesson, i learned something from you! THANK YOU!
