40 Cool Beauty Amplifying Photoshop Effects

DiggThis

Beauty retouching is one of the most sought-after skills in Photoshop arts today. The techniques here are used not only on magazine covers, but in advertising campaigns, digital artwork and professional photography. Here are 40 excellent tutorials to help you add this skill to your arsenal.

Note: We know that there are plenty of good arguments against the use of beauty retouching. If you find these techniques objectionable, we encourage you to think about their potential for use in your digital art, whether you want to render a killer with blood-red irises or a Goddess with glowing skin.

Either way, remember that you have ultimate control over how you choose to use your Photoshop skills, and in what context you put these effects into practice.

  14. Great tips that will surely come in useful. On the flip side, it only helps us mis-represent natural beauty and feeds the ‘anti-photoshop’ campaign when it comes to photo retouching.

Remember, we are the keepers of a great power. Use it wisely. ;)

Fantastic roundup. Retouching is something I need lots of work on.

Regarding the whole “mis-representation of natural beauty” comment which I just KNEW someone was going to make; I don’t buy into that or anything equal to the ridiculous “Dove campaign for real beauty” and their ilk.

I’m a young woman, and I don’t need or want to see unattractive people on billboards or advertisements. It’s a fantasy, and that’s what it’s supposed to be, not some social movement. Being over-photoshopped is only bad when it looks ugly, otherwise, photoshop on!

  20. James Qu says:

Very imformative. Thanks for posting them.
though I do prefer natural beauty, i guess we just have to compromise sometimes, to the power of photoshopping

  21. Momatoes says:

Wow, this is a LOT of resources. Thanks for the links, and I guess retouching will keep me busy this weekend. :-p

On another side, it gets pretty disturbing to see how much outward beauty and perfection is overly emphasized today. It’s OK to use Photoshop to enhance a person’s beauty, but it can undermine the importance of inner beauty.

    Just a thought. :)
